      Thirst - a useful tool

In the classic 1929 book 'The projection of the astral body' by Sylvan Muldoon, one technique for 'projection' is to take a small teaspoon of salt during the night ( I prefer after 4 hours sleep).
This thirst keeps me 'skipping' in and out of REM sleep as long as I don't drink to satisfy the thirst.

This technique generates many more vivid dreams with recall, and allows many oportunities for lucidity or projection, and has proved very successful for me.

This is actually very true. I haven't had a lucid dream in maybe a week or so and had my first one last night. I realized, upon waking, that I was extremely thirsty and found my mouth to be bare dry. I think this definitely played a part in my lucidity.

I thought everyone knew this, but it might just be me because I too often don't drink enough water before bed. When I go to sleep thirsty, I keep waking up to get water. Whether I wake up specifically when a dream ends I'm not sure, but it would be a good time to try DEILD. If I don't get any water during the night I suppose I would get more and more thirsty until early morning... the perfect time to lucid dream.

I wouldn't recommend taking salt for people who are salt-sensitive (blood pressure rises with sodium intake) and already have a high sodium diet it will cause a spike in blood pressure.

Oh I didn't know this! I would do this all the time, because thirst is a sign of dehydration and I don't like that...

I also tend to drink the most water between 4pm and 8pm because I don't like to drink much at school incase I need to go to the toilet a lot. But I think I'll try this, thanks

This is very interesting. I'll have to see how this works for me tonight - I don't need to wake up before noon tomorrow so I have plenty of time to sleep.

I did this the night before.

In one word: Impressive. I chained four dreams together over a period of a few hours. I kept going in and out of REM like was said. I think with the right ability to control the crazy chains it can be very useful. It just sucks it has to be salt. So hard for me to do that because I do not like salt. I had to drink a little water with it. I wish it was like... sugar or dry tea or something lol

I guess thirst could be considered an 'consciousness anchor' ... it could happen! Thanks for the suggestion.
