      unsuccessful WILD, but a DILD?

So at 6:30 this morning I woke up and the first thing that came to mind was attempting a WILD (My 3rd day since learning it was possible to LD), I started off great but ending up falling asleep. I remember I was dreaming, it was pretty vague, there was a girl there and I actually know who she is (I called out her name, we used to be friends but nothing more). Next thing you know I guess you could say "I was getting it in" then all of a sudden I realized I was dreaming AND I had full control, the vagueness was gone and I can still remember everything in my head(How she was laying, what I said to her, ect..) . I froze for a second pulled out and after gaining control for what felt like only 5 seconds everything went black and I woke up.

      is this a DILD?

yes, this is what is known as a DILD. That is unless you went to bed with the intention of lucid dreaming and setting it in your mind to become lucid if that was the case then it would be a MILD, which is tenfold more effective than spontaneous DILDS as you reported. Personally, I'm not very good with MILD/DILD but my first lucid dream was using their techniques but I found that I just couldn't have them consistently using the MILD/DILD technique unlike with WILD. Also I think you are getting confused between the terms awareness and control as you say 'after gaining control for what felt like five seconds everything went black and I woke up' I don't think you had control by experienced the awareness of knowing you are dreaming there is a big difference. Once you get more experience you will notice the difference even more as it becomes apparent that you can have one without the other. Also when you became aware did you get overly excited and wake yourself up? Another Tip is, I find a hell of a lot easier to do WILD than I do MILD but I tried to do what it seems you're doing. Which is trying to do wild from day one as you've probably heard it's the best technique but I had so many failures with WILD before I finally cracked it. I wish I could go back now and do MILD for a little while as it would have cut the time it took me to learn wild in half. I hope I've helped in some shape, way or form.
