The way i understand it is that WBTB is so good because when you go back to sleep you are going right back where you let off in terms of REM, meaning that you are going back into long and frequent REM periods. I don't think it resets it, otherwise when you go back to sleep you would be having short and distant (in terms of frequency) REM periods like you do at the beginning of sleep which would not at all be a good thing for lucid dreaming |
