Well generally you want to sleep around 3 hours before waking up, with the goal being to wake up before you enter REM sleep. It can vary a lot between individuals though, it takes some trial and error to find that sweet spot. |

+1 to Raphael. I also find that the longer you can sleep for before, the more vivid the dreams are when you go back to sleep after. |

This is the rule of thumb I use based on what I have learned. While we can slip right into a dream at the onset of Delta (right when we go to sleep) we usually dream in 100 minute cycles with dream intensifying through the night. The best time I have found to wake, in the middle of the night, is about 3 hours and 20 minutes (200 minutes) after you have gone to sleep but 5 hours (300 minutes) is good also. Hope this helps! |
