      New to Lucid Dreaming

      Hello Everyone,
My name is RJ. I'm 15 years old and my dad, a psychologist, told me about lucid dreaming. Being interested in it, I decided that I would set a goal to be able to obtain lucidity in my dreams. I've been trying for a few days now, and I understand that it is not an easy thing to do, but I have questions and was hoping I could get some help.

I keep a journal of the dreams I can recall. This morning, I recalled a really bizarre one, and noticed that everything I remembered seemed to be in a 3rd person perspective. By this, I mean it feels like I'm following someone around, but my body is not visible. It's almost like I'm a floating camera. I've been using various tips on the internet; particularly making a habit of looking at your hands. How can I make this succeed if my physical body is not present in the dream?

      THanks
      -RJ

When I started recalling dreams they seemed to be in 3rd person too. I thought that I was strange but after some time I started recalling dreams in first person. Rather than a dream issue I think this is a memory issue. You should practice visualization in first person, and practice remembering real life events in first person visualization as well. The idea is to remember imagery along with the spatial position of things, which I think was what stopped me from remembering in first person.

However, people do occasionally have 3rd person dreams. It's not clear from your post if you mean that just this dream is 3rd person or if all of your dreams felt like 3rd person. If this happens often it could become a dream sign, then again you could just be trying to visual. I haven't recalled many 3rd person dreams since, just some 3rd person video game dreams in which I was the character.

I'm not an expert by any means but I started from recalling nothing.

I have been completely lucid in spirit form. By 'spirit form' I mean I did not sense having a body. These types of lucid dreams are rare and very intense. My advice to anyone wanting to induce a LD is to learn the brain cycles of sleep. Also, try deep relaxation techniques (breathing, meditation) while visualizing something relaxing. Dreaming and visualizing both occur in the secondary visual cortices of our brains. Good luck to you!
