      Getting irritated...

So it's been 5 days of trying to achieve a lucid dream.
Still no success but I'm so close! My mind is really weird justifying everything in the dream .
I even write "reality check" on my hand to remember and be aware during the day.
I had this dream last night where I was dreaming of drinking water from a stream on some mountain. I was drinking for like 5minutes continously and I noticed the "reality check" written on my hand. My mind immidiately justified it and i said to myself "hmm I better not drink with this hand because I might get some toxins from the ink". When I woke up I felt like slapping myself .
Anyone else from the newbies having problems like this?

well ive been trying lucid dreaming for awhile now and just recently had my first one but i think it was because i slowed down on the reallity checks and stuff, basically stay focused on your reality checks and rather than just have reality check written on your hand couple it with something that you say so when you look at it truly ask yourself if you are dreaming or not and look around to find out if you are, this curiosity should carry over into the dream state so you dont just look at the ink but rather question its existence. Does this help?

haha, I know exactly what you mean. Don't worry your making progress you really can't expect to have a lucid dream in 5 days (although I did after 3) it takes time. Like grizz said when you do reality checks make sure you actually ask your self if your dreaming.
I'm sure you will get one soon.

      Don't give up!

5 days is nothing. That's not even enough time to check if a method works for you or not. You are not falling behind or are doing something really wrong. If you were 7-8 months in with no lucid, then you need help, but 5 days isn't even worth mentioning IMO.

I started in April, and I have had one about 1-2 weeks ago. Thats pretty late, but still.

Just do what the guys above said; more emotion, focus, and don't get irritated. Focus on emotion.

Yeah, we don't usually notice weird occurrences in our dreams because the logic part of our brain is shut off. Awareness and logic are the most important things you can do to catch these occurrences. Be observant of what's around you, seeing what things feel like, look like, taste like, etc. If you're doing WBTB, do some math problems at this time, and every time you wake up or go to bed, do a reality check and be aware. If you aren't using WBTB, try it for a couple days because it can help a lot.

Five days is nothing; it just takes practice! Keep it up!
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

      Okay awesome.
Thought there was something wrong with me hah
I was taking a nap before and i had this weird feeling of being sucked in by the bed and saw these weird abstracts around me and strange sounds. When I 'woke up' my heart was pumping extremely fast. Any idea what was that lol ? Some crazy hypnagogia?

Sounds like hypnagogia, or possibly the onset of sleep paralysis. =D

Yup that was kind of scary in some way .
What do you guys think of creating a massive sleep debt and then sleeping it off on the weekend? I read somewhere that the REM last longer when people deprived of sleep actually go to sleep. Maybe that would be ideal for first LD?

It's not scary at all. I've been in it about 3 times, and each time it was just vibrations and a loud blood rushing sound in my ears. You don't get nailed to the bed while all these ghosts fly over you and a monster slowly climbs up to you onto the bed, that doesn't happen. It's like you can more acutely hear everything that happens in your body, and you can't move for 3 seconds.

No, it can't, thats just what people say can happen. Sure, you may see some things, and some might be bad, but it's not like your worst nightmares just come alive every time.

i dont think sleep paralisis has anything to do with images of ghosts and stuff apearing, thats not what scares me, what scares me is the fact that you cant move... i am a biology kinda guy and i dont think that waking up during sleep paralasis is a great thing to do, however i think im going to start trying the wbtb technique, i got to bed at like 12-1 am then sleep until like 10, whats a good time to set my alarm clock to wake up for?

I agree. The images are not scary per se, it is the inability to do anything and feeling like never before.
I think Stephen LaBerge wrote in his book about the timing of alarm clock for maximum efficiency . But what do I know, haven't had a LD yet !

Origami, I've had two ridiculously scary hallucinations during SP, without even knowing what SP was or anything else. These were terribly frightening hallucinations that I hadn't premeditated or expected. So, my own anecdotal answer is yes, it's possible.

Exactly. It can be scary, but it does change from person to person, on how they feel. If you dragged someone off the street, and told them that S.P. involves all their friends running into their room and delivering a cake, that would probably happen, or something equally pleasant. If you did the same to someone else and told them it would be Freddie Krueger and Jason in a tag team against you in you pj's, then they would probably have that kind of bad experience.

Everything on this site is what you make of it. If you think LDing is hard, it will be. If you think S.P. is going to be scary, it will be. If you "know" you will be lucid tonight, then more often than not you will.

It's all about tricking your mind into believing things. If you are good enough, you won't have to try and trick your mind, it will do it naturally.

      Think of it this way:

Can you drive? Ride a bike? If you can, then imagine getting in/on one of those now. Lets go with the bike, as it's simpler. When you get on, you don't even think of it tipping over, you can even stand up on it and have to glide along a bit, before you have to pedal. It's easy, it won't fall over, you know this, because you have done it many times before, even if you don't fully understand how you can possibly balance on the two tires while not even thinking about it. It just happens.

Same thing for lucids. Once you have had a few, you will eventually get to a point where you can just fall asleep confident that you will lucid dream. You have before in the same way, it's simple enough, not much effort involved now..

Get me now? It's like practice makes perfect, but more practice makes confidence.
