      Someone help me out here?

Okay, i have a few things that need clearing up and that.
lately i have been demoralized from trying to lucid dream, i feel stuck,. I THINK i can lucid dream by natural ability, not with techniques, or atleast not willingly using the techniques., I want to know some stuff and get opinions and that.

      1. I remember reading on a lucid dreaming site that once you turn 13 or 14 you begin to have un-interesting and boring dreams, aswell as your REM periods becoming shorter. Is this true? because i am 14, and i'v been doing this since i became 13. and before i turned 14, i had great vivid dreams and most of my lucids during that time. But now i am not sure....

      2. How do you become confident or... motivated to do this?. i have lost my motivation and inspiration and confidence in this.... because i took a bit of a break and my 'energy' was just... gone. can someone help me out please? thank you

While it is true that REM periods tend to get shorter as age progressive, it is the general consensus that with proper practice you can actually get better at lucid dreaming and have more of them (with better quality) as you get older. In other words, the effect of consistent practice can more than compensate for changes in REM length. It makes sense that dreams might tend to become more closely related to everyday life (boring) as people leave childhood, but it certainly doesn't mean that we stop having meaningful, interesting, and generally awesome dreams. What I am trying to say is that I don't think you should worry yourself about that. The worrying could very well be what ends up causing problems.

      2. How do you become confident or... motivated to do this?. i have lost my motivation and inspiration and confidence in this.... because i took a bit of a break and my 'energy' was just... gone. can someone help me out please? thank you
Many people are able to motivate themselves by setting specific goals for themselves either in terms of dream control (fly into space, control fire, shapeshift, find dream guide, etc) or attaining lucidity (1 lucid dream per month/week/2days). You might also find it useful to read people's dream journals. They can often give you fresh ideas. In my opinion confidence is largely a result of having the right perspective when thinking about lucid dreaming. Try to enjoy your dreams even when they aren't lucid. Don't see nights where you don't lucid dreams as failures, merely as learning experiences which allow you to become better at what you do.

      Hope this helps, good luck.

Always remember this: Age is but a number. Well it's true like what AscendedSleeper said that REM durations gets shorter by the age, you can just ignore this because with a lot of patience and training, you can have dreams and use it at it's full extent

Me too man, I recently got lost motivation to LDing. But I was able to get back right on the track. Why not watch dream-related movies like Matrix or Inception? It helped me a lot

I don't think I ever had any confidence in this. All that has improved for me so far is my recall from my dream journal, but never anything more. It is demoralizing to have nothing happen when everyone else gets there fine.
It's even worse when you tell a friend about it and he gets one within a week.

All that has kept me going, really, is the thought that every night I try something is a chance and a little step forward. But confidence does wain after a while, you can't just keep telling yourself the same thing over and over.

I could say a lump of gold will fall out of the sky and land in my garden. I can wait and wait, and after a while I will lose confidence in it. Same with waiting for LD's.

Just remember the ones you had and how you got them. Wish I could do that.

      1) I'll be 30 in November, and I'm still having some of the most amazing dreams I've ever had in my life.

      2) No one can 'teach you' motivation. If you're not motivated to do something, you just aren't going to be motivated to do it. I can tell you that the motivation for running into a burning building is to save someone's life, but if you don't give a damn about anyone else but yourself, it's not going to persuade you to run into a burning building, is it? The question is, what are your motivations for wanting to lucid dream?

I'd like to add on the fact that when you get older, your brain becomes more 'fixed', more stable, more adapted to your daily life. It does this when growing up, to make the rest of your life easier because your thinking is more suited to how you live.
So if you are in your teens, like me, you can still 'mold' your brain to have better dreams.
And if you aren't, it is proven it can still be done, it just takes alittle more effort.
(Like learning a language, just because it is easier as a kid, doesn't mean it's impossible as an adult)

      Happy Dreams
