1. I remember reading on a lucid dreaming site that once you turn 13 or 14 you begin to have un-interesting and boring dreams, aswell as your REM periods becoming shorter. Is this true? because i am 14, and i'v been doing this since i became 13. and before i turned 14, i had great vivid dreams and most of my lucids during that time. But now i am not sure....
While it is true that REM periods tend to get shorter as age progressive, it is the general consensus that with proper practice you can actually get better at lucid dreaming and have more of them (with better quality) as you get older. In other words, the effect of consistent practice can more than compensate for changes in REM length. It makes sense that dreams might tend to become more closely related to everyday life (boring) as people leave childhood, but it certainly doesn't mean that we stop having meaningful, interesting, and generally awesome dreams. What I am trying to say is that I don't think you should worry yourself about that. The worrying could very well be what ends up causing problems.
2. How do you become confident or... motivated to do this?. i have lost my motivation and inspiration and confidence in this.... because i took a bit of a break and my 'energy' was just... gone. can someone help me out please? thank you
Many people are able to motivate themselves by setting specific goals for themselves either in terms of dream control (fly into space, control fire, shapeshift, find dream guide, etc) or attaining lucidity (1 lucid dream per month/week/2days). You might also find it useful to read people's dream journals. They can often give you fresh ideas. In my opinion confidence is largely a result of having the right perspective when thinking about lucid dreaming. Try to enjoy your dreams even when they aren't lucid. Don't see nights where you don't lucid dreams as failures, merely as learning experiences which allow you to become better at what you do.
Hope this helps, good luck.
