      Trouble with WILD

      I've been trying to WILD for the last few days, but I haven't had any success at all. I just end up lying there for a long time and then giving up and going to sleep. What should I be thinking about while trying to WILD? Also, how do I know when it starts to work? By "vibrations" do you mean that you're body actually shakes, or is it like a tingly feeling? And what the heck is hypnotic imagery like? Anyway, thanks for listening.

      Give it some more time. I haven't had a long lucid with WILD but I did have pretty much the described sequence of events. I never got any vibrations - but I did get partial sleep paralysis. The hypnotic imagary was there too. It's like like day-dream except the images are much more detailed and specific. They're like dream images but without coherancy, and you still feel awake.

      I stayed up for a long time. Be prepared to not get any more sleep that night. Don't give up and just let yourself sleep. The whole point is to try to stay conscious in a situation where your body and mind really want to sleep. Eventually, you'll start falling asleep without meaning to. But with luck and practice, you'll slip into lucidity.

      When are you trying to WILD? Best time is after several hours sleep, when you are near the REM stages of you sleep cycle. Try WBTB - for me I usually just get up and go to the restroom and then return and try WILD.

      HI for me starts as swirling yellowish images on the back of my eyelids. The purpose of HI is to lull you to sleep. These images often give way to more detailed images like Matthew describes. I concentrate on the HI to get me sufficiently tired and when I start to see the more detailed images I concentrate more on how my body feels than on the images. If I concentrate on the detailed images I often become more awake because of the way they flash into my vision. If I concentrate too much on the swirling-type HI I may just fall asleep. But if I concentrate on how my body feels I can better stay conscious and tired and at the same time recognize the progrssive stages of WILD.

      When my body feels like it has distorted or moved slightly (first sign is usually my mouth feels like it turns to a frown) I know I am getting close. I often have hypnagogic sounds at this time as well. I continually remind myself that I am about to enter a dream and to stay relaxed. Vibrations (feels like electricity running through my body) start about this time and then my body may feel like it distorts or moves even more. When the moment is right I just roll out of bed (with my dream body) and start my LD. First thing I do is rub my hands and focus on them to try to bring some detail to the dream as my dream bedroom is almost always very dark. Then I head downstairs and out the front door.

      how long is a long time?
      i tried WILD a couple nights ago and after 30 minutes i got boarded and after 45 i almost gave up, actually i mostly gave up, but after 55 minutes i went into sleep paralysis, when i stoped trying and just let it happen, it worked. i think the first few times will be rough but once you get used to it, pratice, it will get eazier, and quicker

      I haven't done it yet myself, but i've read comments from people that can do it well, and they usually say the transition phase can be over pretty quick, like 5-10 minutes... I guess the hardest part is relaxing in the right way to not fall asleep. My advice is to read some techniques again and focus on the relaxation.
      I spilled spot remover on my dog. He's gone now.
