      DILD Help

I was wondering if someone could help me with DILDs, they seem to be my most common from of LDs. Just last night, I was holding a teddy bear in a dream, studying it for some reason, then out of nowhere I said something. I don't remember all of it, just "...when I wake up..." and pop, I knew I was dreaming. What I'm looking for is help developing my DILD techniques because they're all different in some way from person to person. All the LDs that I can recall have been DILDs. Something in my dream triggered the LD, such as the comment about when I wake up last night. For me it seems to happen during the dream rather than before, and even when I don't LD, there are times I almost do.

There have been times where during my dreams I know something isn't right, something is out of place, or feels off, but it never pops. I think I have the potential for a lot of LDs if I can just trigger them. From what I can remember, most of my LDs seem to be based off verbal triggers.

It sounds like you're mostly missing good chances to RC. But the fact that you ARE feeling like something is off or out of place in your dreams is a really great sign, it means you are becoming more aware and your RCing is starting to pay off. Just be patient with it and keep doing what you're doing. I highly recommend you try a form of MILD along with RCing...

Can you describe what kinds of techniques or things you've been doing so far?

To be honest I haven't been trying to attain lucidity in dreams, the LDs I have are naturally occurring. I've only recently become interested in actively trying for this. As I said most of my LDs are verbally triggered. There have been a few instances of Lucidity seemingly popping without a given reason. One minute I'm dreaming, the next minute I realize I'm dreaming and don't recall a specific trigger. By the way, what's RC mean?

Hmm, I see. Then I'd definitely go with reality checking and autosuggestion. RC means reality check--basically during the day you periodically check to see if you're dreaming. First you ask yourself if you're dreaming, and then you perform a check, like trying to stick your finger through the palm of your hand to confirm your answer. Autosuggestion is something you do before bed at night and is usually a kind of mantra you say for a few minutes before bed. My favorite mantras are "I will have lucid dreams tonight" and "I'm dreaming." Give those things a try.
