Almost WILD-ed (first try... but i have questions)

This morning was my first try. I set my alarm clock to about 8am (went to bed at 3am but anyway), stayed up about an hour and a half, and went to bed and tried to WILD...

After about an hour of nothing (i kept dozing off, ect.), I started hearing a very faint buzz... Kinda like my alarm clock, except I knew I turned it off, so I decided to coexist with it. Then, it happened. Totally caught me off-guard (which is prolly why I ended up bailing)...

The buzz, all of a sudden, became REALLY loud (and the muscles in my ears... you know, the ones that contract to loud noises... started to contract back and forth). Then, I felt this surge go through my body... it was like a cross between getting a chill down your back (you know, the thing followed by goosebumps), and getting electrocuted. I assumed that was the sleep paralysis setting in (?). But then, probably cause I got nervous, I came out of my trancelike state. I tried to stay calm and go with it, but I guess something inside of me hesitated. Next time, I'll know what to expect hehe.

      Questions I have about WILD:
      1. How long does the freaky transition period last, usually? With the loud noise and all that fun stuff?

      2. It seems that I managed to do this (on the first try, no less), almost by accident... I was pretty much giving up on it for the day when it happened. So, technically, I wasn't doing anything different than when I regularily sleep in in the morning. So, do you suppose this was caused because I had INTENDED it to happen, or because I awakened myself for an hour and a half prior to it? (I would have slept in till noon anyway, so I think the REM lengths would have been about the same).

      3. After the noise/surge recedes, am I supposed to automatically end up in some kind of dream, or does it just kinda last until you do something to enter the dream? Laberge says to just flirt with the images you see and be drawn in... but (maybe cause of the nervousness), I didn't really see any images, just felt the freaky WILD effects before waking up completely.

Re: Almost WILD-ed (first try... but i have questions)

Congrats on your almost WILD. I'll toss in my opinions.

      1. Most people take from 5-30 seconds to get through transition. I've experienced shorter times, but seem to remember someone posting about getting stuck there and not being able to progress even after 20 minutes.

      2. It must be because of your intention. Sounds like you are lucky, it take most people a lot longer.

      3. The vibrations and noise will fade away. At that point, you should be in sleep paralysis and most likely in the lucid dream.

      Good luck with tonight
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

      lucky you

I personally love the vibrations, (iv never called this a vibration but judging from what your telling me mine are too )

usually right as I’m entering a LD I feel a surge go through my body, it starts at my feet and quickly goes up to my head, usually this only lasts for one surge and I suddenly feel energized and aware, (this is how I know that I’m in a dream, no reality checks needed )

anyway its important to never get afraid, or agitated by the noises or feelings, if anything you should enjoy them

hope you have more luck on your next try

vibrations freaked me out during WILD

I really like what SantaDreamsToo said abou the WILD

"anyway its important to never get afraid, or agitated by the noises or feelings, if anything you should enjoy them"

I just experienced my first pseudo-lucid experience recently, and I became very anxious over the vibrations... and the electric jolt invaded my ambition to continue, it was very upsetting that I let my fear take over and cause my to cease trying...

here's my question....do you have any suggestions how to not freak out while these natural vibrations, sounds, and images occur?

I really want to LD, but I don't want fear of the unknown to keep me from it.

Sleep Paralysis is a controllable dreamstate, much like LD. I would call it the worst kind of Lucid Dreaming. In fact, it is LD by definition, awareness during REM-sleep. It is a dream, we are supposed to control those...

Control might not come so easily during the first encounters, even though it's possible. My advice for you might seem a bit wierd at first glance. But don't judge too fast.

As we know, SP usually brings bad sideeffects. These are dreambased, which means created by your subconcious. Some people actually get wonderful angelic experiences, getting massaged by angels of light and such. I on the other hand, haven't been that lucky... getting the same kind of crap that most people do. Now to the advice.

When you are in a disturbing SP it might be hard to turn the tides or "transition", even though it shouldn't be. The way i've coped with SP is actually trying to make it worse, because it's easier. Focus on the bad stuff, vibrations, hallucinations whatever they may be. Feel and observe all aspects of the chaos and slowly push it to the limit of unbearable.

Believe me when I say it, each and every one of you can handle this. A matter of fact is, when you manage to make the SP harder on your self... you're actually CONTROLLING it. You control where your attention goes.

When i get SP nowadays i notice the electric jolt, feel slight tingling, no vibrations, slight buzzing sound and no visual hallucinations unless i try to have them. From the state i described, it's easy to make a "transition" using your method of choice. I myself prefer visualisation.

      Greetings, Tucane

My first WILD attempt wasn't so successful. I was focused on counting my breathing (counted to 600) and I started feel tickling feeling on my legs. But then I decided to give up because I felt uncomfortable.

Dammit, I now get a grasp of what necrophilia feels like

      Anyways;

Any discomfort during WILD is perfectly normal, keep focusing on your anchor (counting) and you'll be fine

      Good Luck, Tucane

The noises were hypnagogic noises so you were probably in Theta .. the brainwave state before Delta (deep sleep). The vibrations were the beginnings of Sleep Paralysis. I would suggest some very light visualization at that point... possibly something that you saw that day or a dream you can recall. Because you were hyper-aware the SP had an opposite effect on you and woke you up. I would remind myself that you go through SP every single night and to not worry about it too much. You were almost there!!
