      Nap Wild

If you try and do a wild during a nap, do you wild before you nap, or after?

This is sort of a confusing question, because people WILD during the nap. But I think I understand what you're asking, you want to know if people try to WILD as they are falling asleep for a nap or after they wake up from the nap? Most people would WILD at the start of a nap, because after a nap, that's when the nap is over, you're done, time to go on with your day. Unless you take another nap after your first nap...and if that is the case...then it's just one long nap.

The best time to try and get lucid during a nap is in the morning/afternoon. It's best to nap less than 4 hours after waking up in the morning, because your REM cycles will still be longer and more closely spaced and you are much more likely to get lucid after, say, 2 hours from waking up. It works even better if you wake up earlier than usual and cut your REM short, then wait an hour or so, and go back to sleep or take a late morning/afternoon nap. Your body will make up for the lost REM sleep due to waking up earlier than usual. After you've been awake for 4+ hours though, the likelihood of having a lucid dream decreases because that's when your melatonin production is at it's lowest, and your wake/sleep cycle has advanced so that any REM at this point would be short and less vivid. So trying to WILD in the evening is more difficult, and when going to sleep at night, damn near impossible, because your body is preparing for NREM and not REM.

I used to wake up around 7 am and go to class until 11 am. Then come back to my dorm and nap for about 1 - 2 hours, then get up and head back to class. I would typically get lucid automatically about 30 min into my nap and spend the next hour or so in and out of lucid dreams. So if you only nap for like 15 min then wake up...yes...try going back to sleep and WILDing as you continue with the nap, because it will probably take at least 20 min (I'd recommend more like 30) before you're really inside a REM cycle. Short cat naps probably won't work too well for trying to WILD during a nap. I realize that 1 - 2 hours for a nap might seem extensive for some, and most people probably don't have that sort of time in the middle of their days, but if you do...then you're lucky, use it to enjoy some great LDs. DEILDing is probably the most useful method while napping. When you wake up, lay completely still, don't move a muscle...visualize a dream forming, remind yourself to get lucid, and you will find it easier to enter another dream and already be lucid when it starts. Much easier than WILDing from scratch imo.
