Hi everyone, I know there are plenty of threads on Marijuana already, but all those seem to claim that Marijuana is detrimental to lucid dreaming. Last night I had the exact opposite effect, and wanted to share. |

7 Lucids. In 6 months. That is.. so not inspiring for me as new to this. |

If it works... more power to you. We all must find what works for us as individuals. |
It definitely works for me too. I was a bit shocked when I found out LD and marijuana don't go well together. Nice to see it works for someone else too |
Marijuana is just generally bad because it suppresses your REM cycles. However, you mentioned that you had not been doing reality checks in that time period. It may possibly have just been an chance thing that spontaneously got you lucid due to your previous practices. Congrats on your lucid dream anyway |

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!
^ If it suppresses your REM cycles, does it also cause a REM rebound like in the case of Melatonin and 5-HTP? |
To be honest, i'm not very sure. I'm not very knowledgable about supplements at all, never thought/wanted to experience any of it. |

I am a regular smoker and not ashamed to admit it. Before I started smoking I had a hard time falling asleep, it was like my mind was racing a million miles per hour. When I took up smoking before bed I noticed that it was way easier for me to focus plus my body was extremely relaxed so I was already half asleep. With practice I've gotten to the point where I can lie perfectly still and notice all the little dips and twitches and noises that occur before falling asleep, thus my WILD success rate has gone up a considerable amount. I have read that it's detrimental to OBEs and quit for a while but I continued to have trouble with my chattering mind and inability to properly relax. |
If it works... it works. Let no one tell you differently. |
I smoke marijuana multiple times a day, every day, for medicinal reasons (without insurance the regularly prescribed meds for my epilepsy cost $850 a month, or for $75 a week I can get weed which is also effective without costing more than my rent). |
Weed won't hinder your ability to become lucid, but it will greatly hinder your recall. That is a solid fact. |
Cinco De Mayo, I smoked a FUCKLOAD of weed, and I got pretty drunk too. The result was a WILD, (or a DILD, I was way too drunk and high to know if that sleep paralysis was a dream. Either way, I had lots of trouble recalling the dream. I think if I had been dream journaling more that would have been better. In fact, I'm going to go journal that one, cause some key parts were cool. (Yes, I'm getting back into LDing again, ) |
As it has been stated in this thread "Everyone's experience is slightly different" so to say that its a solid fact that it effects recall is a fallacy. Between smoking regularly and not smoking at all I have personally noticed no difference in dream recall, its always been about discipline for me, if I take the time to make reggerular entries in my dream journal then my recall gets stronger and stronger over time. It doesn't seem to me to be any harder to build recall unless I wake-n-bake (only on weekends ) |
I find it depends on how often you smoke, your tolerance and how much you smoke. For a consistent, heavy user, it pretty much wipes you out and destroys your recall (from friend's and my experiences). However, low tolerance or small amounts seems to give some sort of rebound. I experience the same thing with drinking. If I get a slight buzz, I can get some pretty vivid dreams, but if I'm plastered I just black out. However, none of these compare to the vividness and consistency I obtained from using a dream journal and practicing awareness daily. |
the solid fact is that it suppresses REM cycles resulting in less dreamtime. becoming lucid and recall is all up to you. although weed also effects the hippocampus (short term memory center) basically the hippocampus gets stuck on "forget" mode... which would explain why recall could be more difficult. |
