      Actually hitting lucidity proving difficult.

      Quick info, greentext style

      >Become obsessed with dreams about three years ago
      >start dream journal
      >within 3 months, have virtually perfect dream recall
      >record 1-3 dreams almost every night in great detail
      >this has been the same for quite some time now, even gotten to the point where I go weeks without an entry, just because i only write down the dreams I feel deserve to be in the journal.

For the last three years, ive tried to have lucid dreams, trying all the methods, and while i am far from giving up, i thought maybe i could get some insight. I like to think of myself as a very imaginative person. I like to go through scenarios in my brain and often space out, pondering whatever catches my fancy. While i quite like this about myself, i have a sneaking suspicion that this is harmful to my lucid attempts. Easily the biggest part of reaching lucidity is realising your dream, thats the whole point lol. When i spend half the day, day dreaming away and only half in reality, when im actually dreaming, absurdness and whatnot from the dream doesn't faze me for a second.

Am i correct in this assumption? That my runaway brain, while barely under my control when im awake is making in much harder to be lucid when it takes control of the wheel in my sleep?

I have had one or two lucid dreams in the past, they were brief, so i know its possible, and wont give up.

I am no expert on lucid dreaming, but from what you've said you may be partially correct in your assumption in that you're probably not practicing All Day Awareness. Check out the thread for it on these forums and maybe give it a try?

Sorry that I can't post the link - this peculiar forum system disallows it for being new.

      My Best Advice

All I can do is share. So, this is what I did the nights before my best lucid dreams.

      1. During the day, I had focused intensely and completely, on the lucid state. In other words, the feeling, impression, atmosphere, of the lucid state all wrapped into a single perception in waking life. Focus on this for as long as you like.

      2. Play out old dreams in my head as if I am back in the dream, going as far as acting out individual parts myself.

      3. Before falling asleep, recall the days events, the weeks events, the years events, and any other occurrence of thought arising and dismissing. Every dream in recent memory is recalled.

      4. Speak mantra while focusing on dream state.

      5. For peaceful sleep, as I am falling to sleep I imagine I am doing one of a few things: flying through the air, flying through space, swimming in water, crawling on/through soil, any other fluid-like movement.

These precepts of dreaming were shown to me by my dream guide as a six year old child. Somehow the knowledge came to me naturally long before I learned academically. These are the basis of almost any technique of lucid dreaming. I hope this is of some help. Its the first time Ive ever shared it so enjoy!

Playing out old dreams and the past days events in my head is one of my favorite things to do when im bored in class or whatnot. Especially when im in bed trying to sleep, unfortunately for me, this actually tends to keep me awake. Falling asleep is one of my least favorite parts of the day, right before waking up, thats brutal for me no matter how long or short i sleep. It takes a long time for me to fall asleep, even if my mind isnt restless.

As for what both of you have said about focusing all day, thats virtually impossible for me. Its not that i have ADD or anything and can't focus on something for a period of time, but my mind is very active.

For quite some time i have felt like lucidity is just beyond my reach, right behind a barrier that i have not yet figured out how to pass. Like a writers block. Maybe il try speaking a mantra tonight when i wake up, might help.

      Yeah, your daydreaming could be making your ability to lucid dream harder. But don't fear; i'm sure we can work through this and make something beneficial of it. Luckily, we have a daydream awarness practitioner x) Check out the link below;

This is intended to help, not offend

      1. How do you know your dream recall is perfect? There could be dreams you aren't remembering?
      2. 1 - 3 dreams every night? It may vary person to person but I often have in excess of 6, could it be youre having more and not remembering them?
      3. You go weeks without an entry, because you only write down the 'deserving' ones. I believe this is a mistake! I was told to write down EVERYTHING. And if I couldn't think of any dreams, to write down 'I had no dreams.' It's the action of writing that gives your brain some incentive to remember, apparently.

This all means you will not achieve lucidity. Try writing ALL of your dreams down, in every detail, every night. You may find you're having more and not bothering to write or remember them!

Obviously there are always some dreams that you simply don't remember in your conscious mind, i mean as in when i wake out of a dream, i remember the entire dream in great detail. They rarely get away from my thoughts like they used to when i first started.
The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.
