Unhappy Can't stop singing in my head

Ever since school/work activities started requiring focus on my part, I've been easily distracted by a song playing on repeat in my head. It's usually a song I like at the moment, or one that's popular on the radio.

I can manage random thoughts coming through my mind and reject them, but I am almost never able to get rid of the songs... I would try singing something else in order to forget about the first song, but it usually ends up in a messy battle of songs in my head, which cancels any attempt to focus.

It's a real problem in my quest for lucid dreaming, since most of the techniques require some kind of focus...
      Has anyone experienced something similar?

I think if you are trying to practice WILD, or similar techniques, it may effect you. However I would say that songs going through your head would not make WILDING harder, in fact if you relaxed, and let them sing, without focusing on them too much they might help!

I know that when I am attempting to WILD, my own thoughts talk to me. Like a narrator. I got told to try and not do this, but rather just let the thoughts come and go, without paying to much attention to them..

      Hope this helps.

      Ooh, their breath is warm
      And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
      Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper

I always have a song playing in my head while I'm falling asleep, unless I'm doing a MILD. Sometimes even then I'll change the lyrics and make it a mantra song . But if I'm DEILDing or WILDing then I'll either block it out by focusing on the dream ahead of me or I'll use it to stay conscious, like an anchor. It hasn't really affected me negatively though.

I've never thought of it that way! I just try my best to shut them up before they occur to me by focusing on something else. But the songs, it's like they WANT me to sing along...

That's an awesome idea. I have the same problem when I'm either meditating, which is why I put it on hold, and trying to MILD.

Sounds a little OCD to me. Stress can also cause this condition. You might want to practice some form of meditation before bed. It can help clear the mind. Good luck to you!

Maybe it sounded a lot more serious in my post than it actually is, i was never diagnosed with OCD to my knowledge and I really hope it's not that!!

I do the same thing. It's probably best to just ignore it. Don' try to push it out of your head, just ignore it. The idea here is to focus on relaxation right? I don't see how a few songs could hurt. x'D

Doesn't happen to me - a meditative mind set into place in my early teens, horray! Google some stuff about meditation, it will be benificial. Also, you might want to post in Sageous' Q&A thread which you may find here. He is currently running the Dreamviews Academy course for WILDing.

Also, you may want to try WILD attempts and pretend the singer is actually standing 'next' to you. This can easily induce a dream Just make sure you're relaxed and not focusing too hard on the song. You need to be relaxed enough to fall asleep but aware enough to be able to go into the dream knowing it's a dream. Find that balance.
      Good luck!
