      Smoking Weed & LDing

Ok, I'll be interested to know if anyone is having trouble LDing and think that Pot is to blame. I know that when I wasn't smoking the stuff I had better dream recall. However recently I have smoked bowls and bongs and such and have been so high...Now my dream recall sucks. I know that when I'm clean again which I will be I will have much better dream recall. I know that this is interfering with my attempts at lucidity...DUH!
However, like I said I am interested: Is anyone else going through or gone through a similiar if not identical situation. By that I mean is smoking the refer messing with your dream recall or your ability to attain lucidity?

I don't smoke, but anything that messes with your powers of concentration can have an effect on your dreaming, both lucid and otherwise. This includes not only chemicals, but stress, worry, or extreme exhaustion.

      haha

Riddle me this Seeker, or whomever may read this which may be few indeed, perhaps from my reference to smoking weed, lol. Ha ha maybe people resent this?
Anyway if chemicals can harm your abilities at attianing lucidity then what of the chemicals which so many of you speak. Lunesta, B6 or such and such others to which I do not know the name. From what I can tell they dont have much effect, or if they do it is related to the tolerances of the individual ingesting them. Which is why I implore people to reply to my post. I know weed is a bad this? Whatever, just help me out here, or just talk for the purpose of this site is to talk...

people who dont smoke weed hate people who do. simple. its called being brainwashed by the government into believing the opposite of whats true. like those fucking comercials who make anyone who smokes weed look like they feel really bad about doing something wrong. while at the same time have no facts to back up anything they propogate. lies

now as to the obvious answer to your previous question: yes weed kills recall. but it helps wild. so get high and try wild. not sure if that wil mean you will remember it or not but i think doing a wild automatically makes u remember it right. if wild is still not wroking for you after some time. give it up like i recently have done to take LDing headon

"Proper" use of the Fly Agaric/Amanita Muscaria mushroom has an effect on dreaming, Some people even consider it a part of the trip. I can't be bothered to explain further and I'd recommend just doing it the normal way, it'll "pay" itself back...

Does your idea of the proper method include drinking your own muscimol saturated urine?

Yea weed isn't good for dream recall. When I use to smoke regularly I think the recall was pretty bad but also the dreams I was having didn't seem quite complete, more like fragments with no storeyline. After finally quitting apart from the occational puff, I would say dreams are much more complete and I am becoming lucid much more often.

Sorry, I do not advocate using ANY chemicals to increase you chances of having a lucid dream. There are well known and published dosages of B6 that are considered proper for the health and well being of a person. I get my dose of B6 in my multivitamin I take, and this is for health reasons, not lucid dreaming. I know nothing about Lunesta.

Melatonin, I take on occasion, usually when I am travelling, as a sleep aid, not as an aid to lucid dreaming. Some take low dosages of melatonin to replenish chemicals in their brains. I have found that my dreams are more vivis under melatonin, but I have not noticed any increase in the amount of lucid dreams do to taking it.

Now, as to the hate or resent part. I hate nobody for taking chemicals. That being said, I wish people would carefully evaluate the effect that taking chemicals has on their minds and bodies.

Bottom line is, you guys don't need that stuff to become a proficient lucid dreamer. Everything you need is already inside of you. The majority of chemicals actually inhibit lucid dreaming instead of helping it.

The Amanita Muscaria is a force to be reckoned with.
It is poisonous fresh. If you eat it withough curing it you will surely puke several times.
It can be cooked with meats and soups to add a hearty broth flavor and can be substituted for chicken. The reason being, anything above 110 degrees kills the Ibotenic acid and muscimol. And you're left with a delicious treat. The japanese pickle the amanita muscaria.

If the amanita is cooked or dried between 100 and 110 degress, the ibotenic acid is totally converted to muscimol which is not as toxic to the body, but is still psychoactive.

In small amounts (1g to 3g) the amanita cured for it's psychoactive properties brings about a feeling of warmth and increased energy.

In medium amounts, (5g to 30g) the amanita brings about a kind of intoxicating effect on the CNS system. Very much like that of being drunk, but more of a degree of mental abilities being affected than physical abilities.

In high amounts, (30G+) the amanita brings about a very scary state of temporary loss of cognitive control and generally so much disphoria that one can only find a spot to lay or sit until the effects wear off (which can sometimes take from 4 to 6 hours)

The info I have provided is for the sake of not having anyone mis-informed on this diverse biological gift. It can be used for several methods safely, but can also make one very sick. I regret to see the day that the amanita is scheduled. It is a very useful ethnogen. I am NOT reccomending that anyone use this ethnogen for recreational or culinary use.

Wow, a lot of resentment from indiividuals...

I, myself, am pretty open-minded when it comes to the individual and what they choose to do to their own body.

I occasionally smoke weed, and I don't find this has any effect on my LDs. But, keep in mind, each individual's body is different and will be affected in different ways. From my own research, I've read a lot of information regarding the negative effects of marijuana when it comes to LDs. I would suggest, not smoking pot if you are having difficulty becoming lucid.

Many chemicals, herbs, and drugs can aid in lucid dreaming, though, when used properly but pot is not one of them. Some that can help are: Valerian, Mugwort, Mullein, Kava Kava, Dittany of Crete, St. Johns Wort, Calea Zacatechichi, Salvia Divinorum, Scutellaria Indica, Licorice Root, Vervain, Jasmine, Honeysuckle, Datura, Bee Pollen, Catnip, Hops, Scullcap, Mimosa, Lavender, Damiana, Withania Somnifera, Passionflower, Chamomile, Cardamom, Gotu Kola, Ginkgo Biloba, Ibogaine, Verbena, Rose, Cinnamon, Marigold, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Holly, Yarrow, and Anise.

I have not tried all of the previous myself, but something I have tried that does work to help create more vivid dreams is melatonin. Melatonin should not be taken regularly, as a dependence can form, it's a supplement and sleep aid. I would not recommend taking more than 3mg per night.

      Hope this helps!

Oh, and for whoever it was up there who said that non-pot-smokers hate pot-smokers...what a load of crap. I have friends who choose not to do drugs. I have friends who choose to do drugs that I would never touch. Stop stereotypes, spread open-mindedness. And, this is a lucid dreaming forum, not a conspiracy theory forum.

      put the reefer down

yea...during the 3 years i smoked the ganja (everyday and all day) i never remembered any dreams, but i do admit i've heard of people who are completely successful smoking everyday and having lucid dreams, some people are just wired differently.

hell, it wasn't till i went to spain to study abroad (first time i went w/o pot IN A WHILE) that i realized how incredible vivid my dreams are...

needless to say, i put the bong down for good and started focusing on my dreams more, and hey i get shit done now too!

nah, weed is fun for a while, but it isn't half as exquisite and rewarding as the lucid dream experiences have been.

it's really hard to break away from the culture of marijuana, b/c i think the CULTURE is more addictive than the plant itself...there was nothing better than getting
off work or out of class and getting completely blasted with your friends, but those good times eventually end, especially if you smoke to the point where you really don't get the high anymore...

my advice is to have more of whatever fun you're having now, and THEN start with the lucid dreaming techniques, b/c doing the two really seems to be counterproductive...

Sorry for bumping up this old thread, but it reminded me of one confusing experience of mine.

I once had a rather interesting experience with amanita muscaria. I consumed a rather large amount, about 20-30 grams if I recall correctly. A couple of hours into the experience, I felt the need to go to bed and try to get some sleep, which I did. The problem, however, was that I couldn't sleep, not really. The best way to describe it would be to say that I was mentally stuck in a loop in which I'd live through different (imagined) versions of the past day in a really, really fast speed.

After I got "bored" with it, I got up. This is where the odd part begins. After getting up, I was so confused by the "loop" thing, that I couldn't honestly say whether I was dreaming or awake. It reminded me of a very, very lucid dream. I still could think clearly enough, so I did a reality check. I watched at my digital watch, and the numbers were changing. I think I checked it in other ways as well, and they all led me to the conclusion that I was dreaming. But I still - luckily - couldn't shake the feeling that it all felt a bit too real, in a way. I wondered around my flat, trying to make sure whether I was dreaming or not.

First, I watched some tv. There were programs on that I knew, in the back of my head, didn't exist in reality. The next minute, there were programs that really existed. It was fascinating, actually. Frightening too. Then I went online: I surfed the web, read forums I regularly visited, and sure enough, they weren't quite right - there was something wrong. There were topics and web pages that were out of place, and surreal in a way. And then, the next minute, the 'net seemed normal to me. All this time I was really moving around and conscious.

The first thing that came to my mind was that I was actually dreaming and asleep in my bed, so I tried to think of ways to make myself up. In hindsight, of course I couldn't, as I wasn't really asleep. I continued to ponder upon this for an hour, until I finally understood what was going on. It was as if a switch in the back of my head was being flipped on and off at an irregular basis, making me constantly switch between only what I could call reality and another reality, created by my subconscious, which I have come to think of as something of a state of (very) lucid dreaming. The whole experience lasted around six hours.

It was by far the most confusing and profound experience I've ever had. I've had my share of psychedelics, and it was totally uncomparable to anything else. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what exactly was happening "in my brain/mind" at that time? As in, could it be called lucid dreaming while "awake, up and standing, walking around and so on", or was it some odd form of temporary psychosis?

Sounds as if you were either having a VERY lucid dream or you were just VERY high on the mushrooms...or both lol. it would be my guess that you were not dreaming but only thought you were due to the side effects of the amanita muscaria.....still, sounds like a strange experience. Do you not recal awakening?

Well, the thing indeed was that I was, of course, unmistakably rather "high on mushrooms", but I'd say that's a bit beside the point.

And as for awakening(s), supposing I was dreaming at some point (many points), it's hard to describe, as the only way I could describe it is that I "fell asleep" and "woke up" several times in, say, ten minutes. And it was instantaneous, like flipping a light switch.

So the only way I could distinguish between these two modes, so to say, were noticing some minor details that weren't (or were) "right", pretty much like when dreaming and becoming lucid because something doesn't match reality.

I smoke all the time, and so long as I'm not high before I go to bed - my dream recall is fine. If I'm stoned when I hit the sack though, I'm screwed for the night.

I get stoned every night before I go to bed... Sometimes my dreams are VERY vivid, and other times I remember nothing at all. But it isn't the weed's fault for me, it just depends on how tired I am. If I'm really tired then most of the time I wake up with absolutely no dream recall.
