      Reality Checks and Me.

Hello all, please take the time to consider the following and repond...
Everyone is mentioning reality checks when disscussing the attianment of lucidity. So I request that everyone explain what they do for their own reality checks. Feel free to mention any other relavent info concerning reality checks. Everyone is different.
I personally only remember to do my reality check no more that 10 times a day, and sometimes unfortunatly less. Ive read one mans claim that doing a reality check every 2 minutes will result in 100% attainment of lucidity...
      thats nice
When I have the urge to do a reality check I ask myself am I dreaming. Then sometimes I look at my palms and examine the swirls. Then I ask myself if everything around me is obeying the laws of physics, for example has a apple just risen from the ground to reattach itself to its parent. If not then yes everything is obeying the laws of physics and i am in reality as i know it.
However I cant say that i experience odd events throughout the day that would have me believing things are defiing the laws that govern nature. i.e. nothing wierd ever happens to me in reality...
I would be interested to know if you people are experiencing extraordinary things that make you actually question weather or not you are firmly secured in real life? Also Id like to know what others ask themselves when doing a reality check!!!
      Please respond

A good RC i found of one of the forums is to try and breath through your nose while your holding it shut with your fingers. If you can stll breath, its obviously a dream. My problem is trying to find dreamsigns

My favorite way to check reality is by attempting to do something that normally just wouldn't be possible in waking life (as far as I know.) Things like "Hey, I think I'm dreaming, let me jump up into the air and try to fly." Or "I think I"m dreaming, let me try to bend that telephone pole with my mind." When I do these types of checks while dreaming, they never fail, but you have to be able to do them without thinking you're just 'awake and doing a reality check' because then your mind would be able to trick your dream into not responding like it normally would. (Without any laws or restraints.)

If you ask me, the best check is looking at your hands. I've never had a dream where my hands looked as they should (big dreamsign for me), firstly, I count my fingers, most of the time I have about 6 (though one time 18), then I look to see if my hands look right, I have some strange skin thing on my lidt hand, it just means it has a tiny red dot that I can't get rd of, anyway, I check for that, see if it's in the right place etc. If it all looks right, as a last check I try and put my right index finger through my left palm.

wow... that's actually a really good idea. because in reality you take off your glasses and most likely (if you're as bad as me) about as blind as a bat. but in a dream you could take them off and still have perfect vision. great idea now if only it was convenient to pop out a contact

That is a good idea of using the glasses for a RC, but what happens if you were dreaming you became lucid and when you take them off in your dream, it becomes blurry because this is what your subconscious knows from the habit being done in waking life?

Well I do reality checks in the same way you do. I basicly checks if everything seems normal and sometimes I try some stuff like pushing my hand trough a wall or something.
I do reality randomly through the day. I use a trick to remember doing RC and my trick is that I have wrote a big question mark in the palm of my hand and whenever I get a glimpse of it I do a RC. I guess that this method makes me do a RC about 30-40 times a day or so.

Whenever you feel like you were thrown into a situation too fast, do a reality check.

Like, if you're just acting normal, look around and think...How did I get here? Sometimes it feels like you were just placed there right away, because in reality the transaction from one place to a completely different one was fast....like, one time I remember me asking "Ok, this morning I was at my house in Michigan...now I'm on a sailboat in Florida...am I dreaming?"

Ive read one mans claim that doing a reality check every 2 minutes will result in 100% attainment of lucidity...
      well it does work...
here is the guidlines for doing it btw...
if you find yourself in a strange place, do a reality check
if you catch yourself dozing, do a reality check.
if you see a dreamsign, do a reality check
if you dont feel \"right\" do a reality check
if someone asks you wierd questions or starts acting wierd, do a reality check
if anything is out of place, do a reality check
if it has been more than 1 minute since your last RC, do a reality check
<if this smiley freaks you out, do a reality check

perhaps this could be better explained in song:

if you're happy and you know it do-an-RC!

It seems to me that the most effective way to remember to do reality checks is to link it to visual or auditory cue.

I make a habit of checking the time on a digital clock as often as I can, always looking at least twice. After that I try to think about how it would look if I just discovered it was a dream and then I picture myself becoming lucid. I probably do that 20-30 times a day. This (in conjunction with MILD) seems to be working pretty well for me so far--I've been doing it for only a few days and I became lucid twice this morning by looking at the time and discovering it changed into something strange on the second look (something like 1100008888). Also, whenever I see food or a swimming pool I do a reality check because they seem to pop up in my dreams pretty regularly.
