Not realizing I'm in a dream

Well, in several of my dreams lately, I have seen things in my dreams that are really odd. ie: the layout in a room would change every time I walked by.
As I saw that, I would literally scream at the top of my lungs, "THIS IS A DREAM!!!" and say something about being lucid.

The thing is, I will never get lucid when I say these things. I just go throughout the non-lucid not caring that I just said that I was dreaming. I know this has to do with my awareness, which I am trying as hard as I can to improve it. But, is there any other advice you guys could give me so I could catch these things or is it just my awareness?

I had the same problem recently. I was in a dream and I was smoking a dream herb and I told the person I was smoking it with, that I was using it to try and get me lucid. Then later in the dream I laid down on the pavement in a campground to try and have a lucid dream but could never realize I was dreaming during it all.

The vast majority of my non lucid dreams are about dreaming as a theme.

That means you are thinking alot about lucid dreaming, so it comes to you in non-lucid dreams, but you don't have enough awareness at that moment to realize it. I sometimes have dreams about WILD attempts too. It's still a step forward though, so don't be discouraged.
I would say just practice awareness during reality checks and keep writing dreams into dream journal and with time you will become more aware of dreaming state and those will more likely trigger lucidity in you, additionally you could also try all day awareness http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...kingyoshi.html , haven't done it personally but i heard about people having success with it.

Maybe you could try to do reality check every time you read , hear or think about word "DREAM", and not just that but also think about what would you do in that moment if it really is a dream. Visually go through it. Also when something awkward happens in real life think "I'm Dreaming" then do reality check and see if you really are.

I am having a great deal of success lately with hypnosis and programming the subconscious. No ILD's required, unless of course you wanna call it a HILD

However I wouldn't even call it that. The audio hypnosis session I have basically just allows you to realize that the only thing preventing you from becoming lucid is yourself and things embedded in the subconscious. Once those things are realized and cleared, it is a natural process, governed only by your own will power.

I don't see how this isn't a lucid dream. You obviously knew it was a lucid dream if you shouted 'I am dreaming'.

No - I can shout "I'm King of the World!" in a dream, and it doesn't mean it's true. He was dreaming about being lucid. There's a big difference between saying something in a dream and actually understanding it.

Just because he's not completely conscious does not mean that he wasn't partly so. How does dreaming of having a lucid dream differ from an actual one? He still was lucid even though it wasn't high leveled.

I believe there are no levels in lucid dream though, it's like a boolean variable, either you are lucid or not. But i agree with Darkmatters, lucidity is not just words by any means, but understanding of state one's in.

He said in his post that he was completely non-lucid.

To dream of saying some words has nothing to do with how aware you are in the dream.
