Reality Awareness Checks Count 100 Method (RACC100)

This is the 4th day I have experimented with this method which I thought up to force myself to do more reality checks and to become more aware of things going on around me during the day.

The purpose of the method is to force yourself to do at least 100 reality or awareness checks during each day, and it is not as hard as it might sound thanks to some cheats that I use with this method, which cheats also serve their own purpose.

I call it the reality awareness check count 100 method because I not only do reality checks with this method, but also do awareness checks, in which I look for things that are unusual or seem out of place, or just become totally aware of what is going on around me by noticing something I have not noticed before.

For each reality check or awareness check done I give myself a point with the goal being to have accumulated 100 points by the end of the day. I then record the number of checks I accumulated at the end of the day.

So far I have had 1 lucid dream since using this method, but hopefully many more will follow.

The cheats I mentioned earlier are that with this method you are allowed to do several reality checks or awareness checks in a row by doing them within a short period of time with the only restriction being that no reality check or awareness check can be repeated immediately after itself. The value of this cheat is that if you get really busy with your work and forget to do a reality check for an hour or so, you can catch up at the end of that hour by doing 5 or 6 different reality or awareness checks in a row. Although this is considered a cheat it can be beneficial in reminding you in a dream to try several different reality checks since sometimes the first one or two may fail.

With this system I begin counting the night before after I go to sleep by doing a reality check each time when I wake up from a dream to check to see if I am actually awake or having a false awakening. After starting my day I then try to pace myself by trying to do 10 reality or awareness checks an hour, most of which are done in sets of at least 3 or 4 reality checks in a row, although occasionally I have to do 5 or 6 in a row to catch up as I tend to get behind a lot when I get busy doing something.

The reality checks can vary from reading billboards 3 or 4 different times while you are driving to see if anything changes on them, to holding your nose and trying to breath, trying to float in the air, trying to stick your finger through the palm of your hand, pulling on one of your fingers to see if it stretches, to looking at your hands to see if they fade, to just about anything else you can think of that will assure you that you are not dreaming, while the awareness checks can be noticing anything you have not noticed before.

Let me know what you think, and if you have any other suggestions I might be able to use with this method. If you're like me you should not only find yourself doing more reality checks than you usually do, but should also find yourself much more aware of what is going on around you during the day, which is just as important, if not more important in helping to become aware or lucid while you are dreaming.

Well, as I say to all methods that involve overwhelming yourself with tedious amounts of reality checks: it might help, but it could even hinder. By having to do so many reality checks during the day, you might develop a strong sense of apathy towards the method, and to having a lucid dream, which would destroy any chances you had of having an LD.

how do you count how many reality checks that you've done by the end of the day? I think that's the only problem-you lose count.

Other than that i think this is a really nice method

but also do awareness checks, in which I look for things that are unusual or seem out of place, or just become totally aware of what is going on around me by noticing something I have not noticed before. [/b]
^^that right there is VERY helpful. Awareness. To me, they make reality checks absolete. Once i started doing the awareness thing, i started to see myself having more lucid dreams and with a lot more control as well. But then again, in the 2 years? that i've been doing lucid dreams, i have NEVER even once become lucid by reality checks...soo....take what you will

I totally agree. It is the awareness checks that are helping me with this method, so I am now doing about 80 percent awareness checks, looking for anything I can during the day that seems unusual or different, which is helping me to see all sorts of things during the day that I've never noticed before, and which is carrying over into my dreams and making me much more aware in my dreams. Since the only reality check that has ever helped me to become lucid is trying to float, most of my reality checks are done using this method of just thinking of floating to see if I float or not.

how do you count how many reality checks that you've done by the end of the day?[/b]
I just keep a count of them in my head which usually isn't too hard to do especially since I do them in spurts. When I get busy at work I may not do any for an hour or so since there is usually nothing too unusual taking place on my computer or around my desk, so I then take a break and concentrate on being aware and stack up 8 or 10 in the next 5 minutes. It just forces me to be more aware of my environment by counting them, because if I stop counting, then I forget to strive to do them, and end up being my normal unaware self. It is also easier for me to be aware if I go outside as I can feel a breeze or an aroma in the air, etc.

      Thanks for the reply.

awareness checks sound rather helpful. the only problem for me is that nothing unusual or dreamlike happens to me during the day. the only time i actually questioned if i was dreaming or not was when my CD burner was not opening or something. one time. although i would say being really high is good for awareness/reality checks, it does have a dreamy feel to it.

It helps to change the environment when looking for awareness checks since most people are normally very familiar with their immediate environment so won't notice anything that unusual in it. That's why I take a break and go outside when doing awareness checks. An awareness check can be feeling the sun shining down or a breeze blowing on you and being totally aware of how it feels, or just noticing something unique or unusual that seems to stand out when you look at it. I did 60 awareness checks in a 45 minutes period yesterday while jogging, so it really helps me to get out and change the scenery when doing this. And since there are no rules with this method saying that I have to do the checks every 10 or 15 minutes, I can allow myself to do 6 hours worth of checks all at once, so I don't have to waste my time trying to do them when I am in my normal environment when nothing unusual is happening.

I remember one of the dreams you shared jay where you were taking a leak and the stool filled completely up and started overflowing. This would make a good reality or awareness check that could be done right in your house. If everything works ok in the bathroom and nothing seems unusual, then you know you are not dreaming.

Same with light switches. When you turn a light switch does the light come on ? Then you are probably not dreaming, as many times things like this don't work in dreams. This is what I mean by awareness checks. Just being totally aware of everything you are doing and if it is working the way it is supposed to. It's really not that hard once you get the hang of it, but it does require really being aware of what you are doing, which is why it helps me to keep track by counting.

      Thanks for the feedback.

ahhhh yes! i should start doing more RCs when i go to the bathroom, i try if i can remember! i should stick one of my "Reality Check" print outs near the toilet as long as no one asks me what the heck its for! haha, check this out. that light switch idea is a great idea, i have 2 light switches on the same pannel thingy, and for some weird reason one of them does nothing! i know i hate this but i accidentally hit it and my lights dont turn on! what a great chance to do an RC!
