You know, I once a long time ago had a non lucid dream in which another dream character told me he was dreaming, and I was excited for him, and started giving him advice about lucid dreaming. So maybe this is the kind of experience you had as well. I think non-lucid dreams about lucid dreaming are indeed a sign that one is close to lucidity.
