If you keep falling asleep I suggest you practice visualizing things during waking hours. Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming, by Jim LaBerg, suggests staring at a candle, then closing your eyes, and recreating it in your mind, and hold a clear image of the candle in your mind, if the image is unclear, or starts to fade, then open your eyes and stare at the flame a bit more.

There are many other techniques, not just this one, but the point is, work on your visualization skills to keep from losing conciousness.
