      Another of my WILD attempts

Well, I ust recently recovered from a failed WILD attempt. I must say, this is the farthest I've gotten even though I did it right when I went to bed (dumb I know). I laid on my back with my arms against my sides and tried some hypnosis, which I think helped a lot. I told myself that when I counted from 20 to 1 I would be completely relaxed. When I finished that I waited and stared into the darkness of my eyelids, waiting for imagery. when I diverted my attention to my body I couldn't feel anything but a slight breeze from the fan on my left foot. I attempted to lift my right leg slightly, but I couldn't. I repeated this with a lot of my limbs and found that I could only move my right pointer finger and both thumbs. At this point I just waited and waited. The only thing that happened was a tingling sensation in my right hand, but that stopped soon afterward. I'm guessing that I didn't move on because I wasn't in a rem period, and since I wasn't I couldn't slip into a dream, therefor I was actually attempting to go into a normal sleep state, which is impossible because you must be uncouncious for that. The reason I post this is to ask if the fact that I wasn't in a rem period was the cause of my failure.

(This is assuming you've read the 5 Stages of WILD tutorial. If you haven't, I strongly reccomend it).

Actually, when I try to WILD, the most successful attempts always take place when I go to bed at night - I don't bother with the waking up in the middle of the night.

I've had a lot of practice now, and I find it easy to get to Stage 3 (numbness, bright imagery etc).

The tingling sensation was good news, you might have been on the brink of going into the stage of weird sensations.

I think unless you're very determined, you won't get very far. When I first read about WILDing, I really liked the idea and I was very excited. I managed to get into Stage 4.

Ironically, if you're really determined, you may not be able to get past Stage 4 because you're so excited.

I say just try again, and don't be too excited by it. Be quite passive as you experiece things. If you feel like you're skydiving when you get to Stage 4, just think to yourself, 'Yeah... Cool... This is nice.'

As I've never broken the Stage 5 barrier, I'm afraid I can't help you any further.

      Ah yess...

      This sounds very familiar.

I have done this sort of thing many times...

      with similar results.

I have the same issues, mostly I get too excited and blow it.

      Or end up just sleeping....

I'm still working on the discipline....staying calm....

trying to stay "outside" as the casual observer.

I don't get excited at all, actually. Also, I have read the 5 step tutorial.

Well, I know it is possible to WILD withought the WBTB method, but I haven't been able to achieve this yet. Almost though, VERY CLOSE! So we're kind of in the same predicament. I am, however, very successful with WILD after the WBTB method. I find when I try to WILD without it, it just leads to regular sleep, eventually, after long periods of time.
