**The COIN - FILD Timing Technique**

**The COIN – FILD Timing Technique**

1- Wake back to bed (WBTB) for 5 to 7 hours
      2- Relaxation
3- COIN – Finger Induced Lucid Dream (FILD)
      4- Reality Check (RC)

      Prerequisites:

      Read BillyBob’s http://www.dreamviews.com/f12/how-wild-62282/
      Read Hargart’s http://www.dreamviews.com/f49/finger...eam-fild-4779/

If you have ever tried to Finger Induced Lucid Dream (FILD) you may have experienced some difficulty getting the timing right. When is the best time to start moving your fingers? According to (FILD) instructions: “Once you think you are about to fall asleep again you need to start moving your fingers.” Much easier said then done! I have found that when I try to find this perfect window of opportunity I am either not sleepy enough or I have already fallen asleep. The FILD technique can be a very effective ANCOR it you can find the right timing!

As with most of the threads here at Dream Views I am not able to offer a new lucid dream induction technique – just a supplement or an addition to the already existing FILD technique.

      My contribution:

Use a coin. It’s that simple, use a coin!

After retiring back to bed, completing relaxation and settling to your favorite sleep position you will need to place the hand that is to be used to FILD so that it is elevated above your head. I usually sleep on my right side with my right arm under my head (a pillow between my arm and head). My elbow is then bent with my forearm and hand at a right angle to my upper arm so that my hand is pointed towards the ceiling elevated above my head. I use another pillow between this arm and the headboard for support. Next I get a coin, usually a penny and place it between my thumb and index finger. The coin can be held by the head and tail sides or by the round edge depending on what works best for you.

At this point it is important to draw your attention away from your fingers to relaxing your mind and body so that you can move closer to sleep. As you start to fall asleep you will find that your fingers will also relax and that you will eventually drop the coin. When this happens I usually feel it hit my left hand that is resting on the bed below it and I also hear it even though I wear ear plugs. This is where you can start the FILD technique. However, since my hand is elevated in the air I use my thumb as my keyboard. I do this by just barely touching my index and middle fingers to my thumb while I mentally play a song in my head. I find that playing something soft and relaxing like Clair de Lune does the trick for me. I also try to visualize my fingers touching a real piano keyboard as I play. This way I find that I am using three different senses simultaneously: sight, touch and sound.

After I play the piece all the way through my left hand performs a non moving reality check (RC) to see if I am dreaming. This way I don’t spoil any further attempts by moving (such as the breathing reality check). My favored (RC) is preformed by using a spoon. In my left hand I loosely hold a spoon and when I want to do a (RC) all I need to do is gently try to bend the spoon. If I am dreaming the spoon will easily bend in my hand with hardly any effort at all.

Now, as you picture yourself with a coin in one hand and a spoon in the other lying there in bed it really creates a humorous image, huh? But, for me, it has been working for some time! Last night alone I experienced three lucid dreams using this technique! Best of luck to you!

Well this sounds pretty cool because I have been having the same problem with the FILD technique. I will try this tonight, that is if I remember, and hopefully post back with details.

What percentage of the time does this seem to work for you? I'm just curious, and will be trying it tonight regardless!

Sounds interesting, but, for me, I don't have a hard time with the timing.
As I replied countless times to the FILD thread, you just need to focus on the finger movement - what matter is how you are moving them, you move them so slightly that you only feel the muscles moving, the finger itself don't move much. The technique lasts for only a couple of seconds, less than 20s I belive. You'll feel the transition - or not - then RC. I belive people just need to get the movement right.

Over the past week with the RC I use it almost works every time. Sometimes though I need to make more than one attempt...

Your explanation for the hand placement is very confusing. I understand that your right hand goes under your pillow (or at least that's how you sleep) but the rest is very confusing. Can you clear that up?

      Yes,

I lay my head on my pillow with my right arm under it. This same arm which is connected to my right elbow bends 90 degrees and the rest of my arm (my forearm) which connects to my hand is pointed towards the ceiling. This is the hand that I use to hold the coin and FILD. Hope this helps...

I understand that your right arm, when on your right side, will be closest to the bed; however, how does the left arm which is furthest away from the bed catch the coin by resting itself on the bed?

If you look closer at the OP you will find that I support my right arm with a pillow against the head board. The illustration is just that and lacks the pillow.

Very nice explanation, thank you. I remember trying this the other night and hearing the coin hit the ground (still haven't found it, 25 cents down the drain! ) but I fell asleep soon after. I Guess I'll try another time. Any tips?

After the coin falls it is essential to focus on your finger movements. Make sure that you keep them moving while you play the music in your head. Then perform a RC part way through or at the end of the tune to see if you are dreaming. Tell yourself that you will not stop your fingers until you do a RC.

When I first started doing this I used antacid tablets like Tums or Rolaids which also worked. However, perhaps due to the fact that these tablets are more bulky they would not always drop before I fell asleep. So you may want to experiment by dropping something else. Good luck!

You should edit the main post to include that illustration you posted further down. It helps with the visualisation of the required posture.

      I will try this tonight.

Yes, I tried to edit the OP when I first posted the illustration but I was not able to make the addition.

      Good luck tonight Wolfwood!

It's still working for me. However, it wakes my wife up when I drop the coin, so I am working on a variation so I don't have to sleep in another room.
