WBTB: Does it Matter what Time you go to Bed?

I've been experimenting with WBTB recently; I haven't had much success, and I'm wondering, does the time I go to bed matter? I'm not attending university currently, since it's the summer, so I usually go to bed at about 2 or 3 a.m, and set an alarm for 7 or 8 a.m before going to back to bed.

I was wondering, is there any merit to the idea of going to bed earlier, at say 10 or 11 p.m, or does this make no difference as long as I adjust the times at which I wake up and go back to bed to fit with my current sleeping schedule?

      Thanks!

As a general rule, you wanna aim for somewhere between 4 and 5 hours of sleep. The reason for this is that you want to wake up near the end or at the end of a REM cycle. Typically, one REM cycle lasts about 90 minutes, so 4 1/2 hours is 3 cycles. Usually, by the fourth cycle, your cycles consist of more REM sleep than non-REM. Of course, your REM cycle could be shorter or longer (mine's about 85 minutes, last time I checked), hence the room for error.

It sounds like you're getting 5 hours of sleep, which is probably interrupting you right in the middle of your 4th sleep cycle. If you go to bed at 2 or 3 a.m., maybe set your alarm for 6 or 7 a.m. instead.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to change my alarm tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to report some lucid experiences! Although I've kept a journal for two years, I've never had one!

It may matter, it may not.
If it's going to be noisy in your house at let's say 10 AM and your doing 7 hours WBTB after you fall asleep on 3 AM it might be troublesome for WILD/MILD/DEILD
The morning lights could be troublesome aswell if you wake up when there's sun shining throught windows*

      * - Investing in sleep mask or having dark curtains should solve the problem here

Other than those things i personally don't see any other issues.
      I'm back! Again? Uhhh..

The morning light doesn't normally bother me too much, but there might be a little noise next door. However, I usually sleep through it. I think I'll definitely invest in a mask though, as the street-lamps outside are obnoxiously bright and tend to shine through my curtains when it should be dark.

      Thanks!

What spellbee2 said and the fact you dont want to keep constantly messing up your sleep cycle, as your body needs so many hours of sleep and delta sleep, as time for regeneration and stuff like that. For most people, you need 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep, that will cover your delta sleep cycle and the regeneration and if you are a teenager its the time where your body grows.
