      Trouble with WILD

Have tried WILD about 10 times in the last two days, the very first time I tried it yielded a textbook WILD LD, every time since then it has failed- miserably.

It's really frustrating as I don't know what my problem is. I tried doing it this morning after waking from 5 hours of sleep- laid there for an hour and 15 minutes... thats about 100 times longer than is necessary to just fall asleep. Same thing happened last night, tried it before I went to bed- laid awake till 3am, roughly 3 (!) hours of trying.

I cannot find any difference with my WILD attempts now as compared with my first, and even worse I'm finding it harder to go to sleep. I'm not excited, or demotivated, or anything that would seemingly cause this... so i'm not sure what to do. I was very very happy with it on my first attempt, naturally as it yielded a LD, yet now it seems impossibly difficult- hynagogic images fail to become anything more than dark blobs.

      Any ideas?

      Update

Barrier No.2: Talking to yourself(Inner dialog).
Again this falls under the category of concentrating; the mind needs to be almost blank to enter the deep stages. To achieve this, use techniques like concentrating on your breathing or an object in your head. You'll find that concentrating on one thing for a period of time is actually much harder than it sounds. Having said you should concentrate, try not to over-concentrate(ie. Putting all your efforts and mindpower into the task) as this can prohibit you from falling asleep. From all the resources on WILDs I have read on the internet, not one has ever specifically mentioned this, resulting in me staying awake for up to 60-80 minutes before without any end product(Well done me). Do try concentrate but also try to relax on the effort if that makes sense. [/b]
After reading this I think I might have a better chance, all of the above makes sense, so I'll post an update below.

Perhaps I'm temporarily doomed by my own hubris.

Its especially weird in that I have always been able to fall asleep in no more than 30 minutes whenever I feel like it, no matter how much I'd already slept. Now I go to lay down to take a midday nap and I find it impossible to fall asleep! All the while making me wonder "What the hell have I done now?"

With time I suppose all will be righted 8)

I think it's because you're either trying too hard, or you're anticipating it too much. Much easier to fall asleep when you don't want tomorrow to come.

You're certainly correct, somewhere deep down my subconscience is anticipating some event- and perhaps I am worse off in that my very first attempt was an astounding sucess. Much like writing a book and having it declared the best piece of literature ever written, then trying to follow your own act assuming by default everything else will be as good.

dont worry about seeing stuff or hearing things. just lie there without moving and sooner or later you will enter the trance state. it will suddonly feel like youve just woken up but are still sleeping. you may be confused and think you have failed, but no. the brainwaves slow down and your body falls asleep. also dont worry about getting SP or not. at this time you will most likely feel slight vibrations. make sure all muscles are comepletely relaxed too. tell yourself stuff like i am dreaming. let yourself drift into a dream while trying to stay aware. dont try and see stuff. just lie there and expect nothing. dont move no matter what and keep trying. this is especially easy after a short night's sleep.

Well, first of all, from what I know, Wilding doesn't work at night because you don't go straight into REM. I have had problems with it too though, I try as many mornings as I can and each time I end up lying there for over an hour. I feel sensations every now and then, but eventually they stop and I just lie there for a while with nothing happening and I give up. What can my prob be? People always say to just keep trying... but even when I do keep trying, same thing happens.

See, I wonder myself- simply because I no longer see any difference between attemtping a WILD and not being able to fall asleep because my mind is active...

I.e if something huge happens during your day you are gonna lay awake because your mind is active- even if you completely blank everything out.

So I am actually kinda surprised I was able to do it on my first try- seemingly when my mind was most active and thinking of dreaming lucidly.

I find WILD easier to to at night. Take last night for instance, I achieved SP, VIbrations AND a dream state within 10 minutes. And this was my first REAL attempt at a WILD. I put on some good earphones to block out the sound so all I could hear was my breathing deeply. I started to feel numbness in my big toe, all of a sudden it shot through my body and I felt as though my hands were on backwards. I then focused on the inside of my eyes, I starred blankly, a passive observer at the area where the bidge of my nose was. I felt an electric shock pulse through my body, all of a sudden the blackness that was inside my body enveloped me. It covered me like a 3d world, All of a sudden the HI in my eyes became intense little geometric shapes flying around on the inside of my eyelide. After this I awoke, and reveled in my success Don't let anyone tell you its impossible to do at night, different people's bodies work differently. I plan to dot the same thing tonight with my newfound skill

And for what its worth I layed in bed at 11:00, not extremly tired. (If this will help anyone)

Unfortunately it always takes me ages to fall asleep -.-

      I mean 10 minutes...that's wow...that's, really fast.

Maybe I should get an eye band/patch/whatever and something to cover my ears...and then I'll be able to fall asleep sooner in general...?

The ear things definatly helped me because I am one of those sleepers that if I hear a cricket chirp I cant get to sleep. I need close to no light, except maybe moon light, NO sound except rain and then I can go to sleep. The earphones helped me focus on my breathing, all I heard was the deep intake of air and the exhale. I'm amazed with myself for achieving it this fast, but a recent memory reminded me of when I was a kid, I used to WILD on demand basically. Usually they involved me closing my eyes, feeling a falling sensation and being right back in bed, everything EXACTLY as it was when I closed my eyes, but it would usually be a sort of nightmare where I was unable to move (sp). This recent memory must have triggered something in me Good lucky to all other WILD hopefulls out there

Heh, I'm in Russia at the moment, I don't have the slightest idea if it's even possible to buy a sleep mask here >.<

Wonder if there's anywhere to order such stuff online...

Maybe Dream Views should open up an online store with everything from dream journals and sleep masks to whole lucid dreaming kits including all that and more, if it'd be popular enough to gain profit from I suppose it would be a pretty useful part of the project, heh.

Try focusing on one thing, like your breathing or heartbeat. Listen to yourself breath in and out and you should get there...

On a side note, I seem to have lost this magnificent ability to reach wild in 10 minutes... Confuses me, I got it so easily last time and now I can barely get to SP, and its not even TRUE sp its more like a slight numbness of the extremeties

This seems to be a common attribute - being able to have a decent attempt at a WILD for the very first time then not being able to get it from then on. Same thing happened to me, i got to numbness and even went straight to REM, i could feel my eyes goin crazy under my eyelids, i couldn't actually keep them closed. I think i started thinking too much about what was going to happen and eventually lost my state that i was in. I have attempted WILDing a few times since then but without anywhere near as good an effect. I think having no expectations can be quite good. Just try to focus one something and be a casual observer of everything that happens to you, just like quite a few others have said.

      Have a wild WILD,

      Glor

      hey...
thanks for all the help! I tried it yesterday again, concentrated on my beathing and then everything started to spin in my head, it was fun
but i dont remember how and when, but i fell asleep again quite after that.....
should i maybe not be so tired trying a WILD? and how long does it take after all that spinning and dissyness?

Lucid dreaming seems easier.....can do it practically every night with controlling my dreams......

lucid = practically every night. ?!?!?!

that's what we're all trying to achieve, i wouldn't even bother with WILD if i could have a LD even 3 times a week. I'm using this tech to try and have at least ONE LD a month

Do you just have DILD's dream walker?
