      A thought. Your thoughts...

My lucid dreams used to start thus:

I'd think I'm dreaming. Do a nose pinch. Then immediately take off.

I dropped the idea of taking off as a part of my "default" because I wanted to explore my immediate environment.

I then experienced a plunge in the regularity of my lucid dreams - both deliberate and accidental.

May be coincidence? May be something to it?

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Even if your drop in lucid dreams was partially deliberate, it may have created a major mental block to it. Confidence is a big part of lucid dreaming, and if you expected yourself to stop lucid dreaming, then it's no surprise that you did stop lucid dreaming.

Well, this seems an easy problem to solve, Bobblehat: just go back to your original process.

If regular lucidity returns, then it might be a good idea to stick with it.... You can still do your exploring, too, if you only take off briefly and then pause and remember that you wanted to stay where you were a moment earlier.

I didn't expect a drop in my LD rate, but your point makes me think that maybe as I slowly realised there was a drop it may have become a self-fulfilling prophecy that kept fueling itself.

Your mind is a big pattern recognition machine. Probably one thing happened that sewed the seeds of doubt and now that they've grown they've manifested in a somewhat nasty way.
