      Imagery dissipates during WILD

Whenever I try WILDing, and I get to the hypnagogic imagery stage, the images dissipate as soon as I realize they're hypnagogic. For example, last time I tried I suddenly saw a fighter plane flying in the air, but when I tried to make sure I didn't get lost in the imagery and reminded myself it is only imagery, it's gone. I try to look at it as a 'neutral observer', like watching TV, but the problem is that it's very involving, and as soon as I try to take that distance of just watching it happen, it goes away. Very frustrating. Does anyone have tips on how to stay aware without ruining the imagery, I can't seem to find the balance.

I should add, too, that not only the imagery disappears (because that in itself would not be as much of a problem), but that I'm thrown completely out of the imagery stage and have to get back into it. As I said, I can't find the balance in those first few moments.

It's the active concentration thing and can be quite annoying! See if you can find some way to be more passive, perhaps like you are watching it on TV.

An exercise you might try sometime. I don't know if it will work because I just thought of it

Sit in front of the TV, try to notice what is going on with the TV show without really letting it register. If you can get to the point you can watch it without concentrating on it, it could help you with your WILD.

Good luck! It sucks learning, but that first one is worth it.

I would still love what this damn HI is...is it a vivid thought or actual images in your eyes...when I close my eyes all I see is the stuff you do when you normally close your eyes...random dots of light thats all, no images or anything...
God, grant me the courage the change the things I can, the serenity to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference...

for me, real HI is never crappy random images moving around in darkness. i suddonly find myself in a full blown dream sequence of HI then my awareness exits the dream as i find myself in bed in which i proceed to get vibes, SP, then HS.

      Hello,

Here is an image I've used to practice stillness without losing imagery.

If you stare at the center dot, you will notice that the images (blobs) will seem to disappear. You'll need to stare at the image for 30 to 60 seconds for the full effect.

The barrier with this image is, the imagery in the peripheral is static, unlike HI. However, the point is:

      1) if you keep your eyes stilll and focused on a single point, the HI will move across your focal point without risk of it dissipating.

      2) In the static image below, the peripheral disappears. But, in actual HI, they would move to the center point into your field of vision.

      Deja

hOju, I think this image is just being used to give an example of hypnagogic imagery (HI). It is hopefully something that you will be able to see if you try and induce dreams using the WILD technique. If you want more info, I suggest going to the tutorial on the home pages.

Alright thanks I experience HI sometimes with my eyes open. My eyes will actually go through that stage then sometimes black out completely until I move them.

Yeah I have a real problem with HI... I get it sometimes but it is so hard to keep up... I have tried watching it like a tv kinda thing and just noting what is happening, which seems to work, but I usually just fall asleep.
