Your dream sign, school, is your alarm which reminds you that you're dreaming.

1.Fall asleep waiting for the alarm.
2.Recognize the alarm inside the dream and identify it as such.
3.Remember that the alarm means you're dreaming.

That said, your dream sign seems vague so might be difficult to identify. Is your attention inside the dream on school itself when you're somewhere near your school or with people from school? In order for the dream sign to work, it not only has to have your attention of it inside your dream but you also have to identify it as a dream sign. So, if your dreaming and you're with someone from school, you to remember they're from school, which you have to remember is a dream sign, which you have to remember means you're dreaming. The more specific the dream sign is, the easier it will be to focus on.

Something like being in a class would be an example of something more specific. Then you could fall asleep and wait until you're in class, which would mean you're dreaming.

well its difficult for me to think about whether or not im in a dream since im at school so much when im awake as well. my awareness sucks a lot as well. but i have realised there is a specific classroom that a lot of my dreams are in for atleast some part of the dream. maybe i could use it to get lucid?

also a lot of my dreams i just dont remember it when i wake up it just always feels like it was real life and something later on in the day will end up triggering the memory and ill be like oh yeeah it was a dream, no matter how ridiculous the dream could get.

Congratz on finding a dream sign you'll probably find even more as you continue. Something that personally helps me keep track is writing my dream journals on DV, and then using the tags system. Easy way to build up a list of dream signs :tropicalboxer:

I think someone more experienced could help a bit more, but here's my 2 cents:
Reality checks will help you increase your general awareness. It's kind of uncommon for people to do a RC in a dream and then discover 'oh I'm dreaming' (though it does happen). Usually it's used more as a way to confirm and stabilize yourself once you're already aware you're dreaming. Basically, reality checks are great but they aren't enough on their own.

      So...

      Some tips + other stuff
      - If you aren't already, then try practicing one technique. Only one, and practice it properly for at least 2 weeks to make it functional. This is how I learnt to SSILD: I joined a thread that was testing SSILD for one month and posted my efforts after each night. It took a while but I got some good results in the end
      - http://www.dreamviews.com/dreamviews...ml#post2176901 you might enjoy listening to this.
      - I hear a lot of people mentioning that reading ETWOLD is a must (Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming). You can download it free, I just started reading it so I don't have much to say about it ^_^

my awareness sucks a lot aswell.
ADA and meditation can help with awareness if it's something you're interested in. But I think it's hard to stick with and is a long term investment.

also a lot of my dreams i just dont remember it when i wake up
Try writing typing a couple keywords onto your phone or write notes during the night after each dream. That can help build up dream recall a bit

You're already aware of your dream sign in your dreams so your awareness is good enough to become lucid. Memory is what you're working on. You're working on remembering during the dream that the classroom is your dream sign.

In my experience becoming aware of dream signs is like grabbing smoke. It's always out of your reach.

For example if I always dream about busses I can then start making reality checks on busses in real life, but the problem then is that I no longer dream about busses...

The reason for this is simple and that is that our dreaming mind is (simply put) our sub-conscious mind experienced. So when we consciously focus on something we'll most likely no longer dream about it.

This might seem like a problem at first, but then when you just embrace this fact and consciously focus in on ALL your THOUGHTS and ALL YOUR DAILY EXPERIENCES and ALL YOUR FEELINGS and EMOTIONS & PROBLEMS and YOUR WHOLE LIFE what is left for the subconscious to dream about then? Well for me atleast my dreams then just consist of strange scenarios that is very simple to become critical and aware of. But my dreams are no longer this chaotic mess of things happening over and over, it's just a very calm experience with randomness in it.

View your dreaming as a way for the brain to cope and sort out your mind, but understand that if you focus on them and sort them out YOURSELF during the day, then our dreaming process is no longer a process of therapy and cleaning it's just a playground for the consciousness.

So dream signs shouldn't be used as a means to learn about when you are dreaming something, it should be interpreted (by yourself) as a way to figure out WHY you are dreaming something.

When your mind is calm, with no emotional problems or memories that is needed to be sorted out, then lucidity can naturally occur.

The reason we become unaware of our dreams is so we can live a virtual movie with our 5 senses and have an experience that helps us deal with our mental problems, kind of like Teddy Daniels in the movie "Shutter island". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iaYLCiq5RM

But when we are free from our own mind's therapy session we can experience the mind freely. It's the same for real life! If you let the fears and troubles of your mind hinder you from living the life you actually want to live, you are not free and fully aware, you are most likely in auto-pilot, thinking and doing the same things over and over again during the day.

      Wake up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Njc5w1WRzYw

What's the way out? How to attain freedom from our own mind? By creating space between the watcher (that is in the mind) and the mind. When you are observing your own self-image you can laugh at it, and even if it's just a for a few seconds you will not only believe the truth, you will know the truth of "You are not your mind!".
And to be consciously aware of not being what your mind wants you to believe, isn't that what lucid dreaming is all about?

My personal recommendation to achieve this is meditation (which you can read about in the link in my signature).

So live a daily life of being conscious and your nightly life will follow.

I hope this advice helps and I wish you sweet dreams and a sweet life!

      Peace!
