      New and Trying to Improve

      Hello!
You can call me Teddy if you like. Anyway, lately I've been trying to lucid dream. I'm here for help. I'm slightly concerned as to how much my mentality will accept as real. I dreamt one of the numerous kittens we own outside had gotten a large gash on its side. It was a black and white one I call Chocolate. Anyway, next thing I know I'm rocking it like its a baby and it's dressed in footsie pajamas like one too. But there's something mechanical attached to it that is supposed to heal it. And it's talking about how much it loves me and how glad it is to be held. And I hear it's bones breaking and it's just saying that it's okay. It's cat head comes off and it laughs, saying "It's okay. I'm fine as long as you hold me."
So I put it's head back on, slipping a peice of its spine in the right place. But the spine and what I slipped it into looked dry and segmented strangely. There wasn't an ounce of blood or anything.
Should I be concerned? I've recorded as much of my dreams as I can remember and I can't find a pattern. When I am in it (and not some character) I make no move to do any reality checks whatsoever. I must have tried to press my fingers through my hand nearly 30 times a day. I never so much as glanced at my hand in my dream.
How patient should I be in practicing something on this before trying something else?

I apologize if this is so long. Maybe I'm rambling about nothing. Who knows. Bleh >.<

      Hi Teddy! Welcome to DV.

You don't need to be concerned at all; many people have disturbing dreams that they feel like they can't control.

It will take a lot of patience and practice, but you will become lucid eventually. Just keep recording your dreams in as much detail as you can remember (you seemed to recall a lot of detail from this dream, which is great!) and keep doing your reality checks. It may take a few weeks but you'll see results soon!

We will accept anything as real in a dream, no matter how crazy. This is why we need to practice questioning reality throughout the day, so we can build the habit. Try to identify normal dream signs in your dreams. Focus on things that appear in both your daily life and your dreams. This way, you can reality check when presented with these dream signs in the day. Hopefully the practice will carry over into your sleep.
