      Changing My Approach

I've been onto this for quite some time, starting from mid-2011. I've never actually had a clear view of how i should go about this, or what i should practice consistently to achieve results. What resulted from a wandering approach was just that i feel like i spent years without improving. Mainly this is my fault for thinking that lucid dreaming was all about looking for the magical techinque for success every night. But i began to re-think it all, and aimed carefully at what i should do. For all of these years i tried almost every technique i can think of without relying on the main fundamentals that actually matter. The results weren't surprising.

With that said, i will re-sort my practice schedule. I'll treat this as a skill instead of something that only requires a techinque. I'm going to try building my way up using the fundamentals. If Self-awareness is that important, then i'll take it up..

I've always ignored the concept of a DJ while i do attempt to remember my dreams in my head after waking up. The issue is that writing down dreams every time i wake up would cost time and would be rather annoying, so for the time being i will just remember my dreams in my head.

I'm going to RC occasionally through the day, every day. I won't make it too much as to not burn myself out though.

Being mindful and aware during specific times of the day, or things like going to the bathroom and eating. Maybe i will expand upon these times the easier it gets. This is probably what's going to really affect my progress in the right way if i do it.

Taking these all, i will look at this practice as something that will require a long time to get me results. Language learning and other hobbies have taught me this the best way they could. It would be worth it, so why not put the time and effort?

That's my new approach on this.

Hi, what experience have you had with alarm based DEILD's? This is an easy technique that eliminates the need for daytime awareness

I've tried the method with auto-shutdown alarms..
It was a while ago, i remember that my attempts resulted in either me not hearing the alarm in the first place, or hearing it and moving a bit. Either way of those, i fell asleep unconsciously afterwards. I might have gotten it right had i stayed with it, but even so i can't use an alarm all the time in the first place. I had a different time that i practiced raw-DEILD in, with the same results.

Remember, dreams occur at night, so if you want to improve, you have to change your habits at night. Your habits won't automatically change at night just because you change your habits during the day.

In my opinion, being mindful and aware and trying to do more reality checks while you're sleeping will be more effective than doing these things during the day.

What do you mean? Practicing night-time or before sleeping?

Any time you're conscious at night. Before sleeping, while trying to fall asleep, and while sleeping.

In order to become lucid, the concept of dreaming has to come across you mind in some way during the dream. In order for something to come across you mind, it has to be your top priority at that time. Dreams occur during the night while sleeping, so it makes sense to keep lucid dreaming a top priority at night while sleeping. It can be tough to pinpoint exactly the time you're going to fall asleep, tough, so it makes sense to keep lucid dreaming your top priority while trying to fall asleep, that way it's more likely to be once you do.

Before you go to sleep, set your intentions for what you want to do while falling asleep and dreaming. Your intentions could be remaining mindful and aware, to remember to do a reality check when something dreamlike occurs, or anything else related to lucid dreaming. When falling asleep, try to maintain your intentions as much as you can until you wake up. When you wake up, do a reality check because you could very well be dreaming at this time. Before you go back to sleep, recall and write down your dreams if you wish and reset your intentions again. If you do this well enough, you should be able complete this routine 5-6 times in 8 hours of sleep. I know I can, anyway, and I'm sure you can do what I can do.

Your intention is what makes lucid dreaming a priority. If this priority is maintained or recovered by the time the dream is still happening, you start thinking about dreaming while you're dreaming. At that point, you just need enough self-awareness to put your thoughts and awareness together in order to become lucid.

Sounds logical. I will add this into my practice. Not a really an important thing to ask, but how much success did you get from this?

This is all I do to lucid dream. Looking at my Intro Class workbook, I adopted this practice on 11-10-2012. I've changed my intentions around a lot, but the structure and idea of what I've presented has remained the same.

During those 1231 nights, I've had 1064 LDs. That comes out to an average of 6 LDs a week during the past 175 weeks.

It is also very important to be really mindful of your thoughts while you are falling asleep. I found that my thoughts go crazy just before I fall asleep, thinking of weird plots or just not important stuff. In the times that my last thoughts were about lucid dreaming, I almost always become lucid.
