      WBTB does it again

Last night(this morning) is my first attempt in awhile with the WBTB method, and once again it worked beautifully. I'm constantly amazed at how well this method works. My success rate is almost 100%. I can honestly only rememeber a handfull of times it didnt work.

I went to sleep at 11:00pm. I woke up at 4:00 and layed in bed til 4:15 starring up into darkness. I got up went on DV for a minute and then turned the computer off. I paced in the darkness for 30 minutes just getting a feel of the physical world, so I could take that with me to my dream. I looked out the window and saw a large evergreen tree blowing in the wind. It looked quite magical so I did a nose/breathing reality check. I was still awake. I paced around some more. And felt like i was dreaming again....it feels wierd walking around in the darkness on little sleep.....I flipped a light switch and it worked, and flipped it off right away. After 30 minutes passed I decided it was time to go to sleep. I layed down on my side and very quickly began seeing HI. Strangely enough I was seeing the DV site scrolling endlessly, and controlling it a bit. I started walking around this mental space, amazed at how quickly it was working(I was not dreaming yet...just playing around with my HI), but I lost focus and rolled to my other side...my mind wandered and I caught it wandering and kept thinking about what I was going to do when I got into my dream. Well, eventually my mind wandered again and I entered a dream. I dont remember this dream too well, but about 20 minutes into it I realized I was dreaming and had a false awakening. Out of practice as I am, I didnt do a Reality check, but still managed to quickly realize I was still dreaming. Then I did just what i planned. I decided not to do anything crazy, but just to get my dream legs back and explore my dream world. I havent been lucid dreaming for a few months, so I didnt want to try anything crazy. I went over the basics. I did some dream spinning and actually spun for at least a full minute. I teleported nicely to the top of a building. I opened a door and this Taiwaneese man I work with was there, and I started fighting him kung fu style. It wasnt a fair fight, I did some fancy moves and kicked him back where he came from. I flew around a bit from building to building and just had a great time exploring. Lucid time was about 20 minutes.

I have a four day weekend so I plan on doing this some more. Next time I will stay up for 45 minutes to an hour. I think with only a half an hour my REM didnt come quite so easily as it has in the past.

Anyone who hasnt had any, or many lucid dreams, I have to plug the WBTB method. Of course the ultimate goal is not needing to do this, but as a result, I have my most vivid, life-like, and longest lucid dreams. And it's nice to be able to plan a lucid dream.

EDIT:I just remembered two things to add. I was running around sluggishly, like a human does, and realized I didnt have to. So I learned how to walk hyper fast. I didnt even need ot run. Like Flash Gordon or something. Also I made good use of shouting commands to keep my dream going. Everything was getting dark and I shouted "Get brighter! Get Brighter!" and it worked perfectly.

I'm going to try the WBTB method tonight, the first lucid dream I had was a result of WBTB, but I have never tried walking about so I will aslo try that. Wish me luck!

I just got back from LaBerge's dream camp a few days ago and this is exactly the technique he had us practicing while we were there. Unfortunately for me, getting up around 4am seems to be a bit too late for me - I usually can't get back to sleep.

If any of you have this problem, try getting up a little earlier, like maybe 3am. Of course, a lot of this has to do with the time you go to bed and wake up. If you go to bed late and WBTB early (like between 2-3am), you won't catch the extended REM periods untill later in the morning. But, at least you will have more time to fall asleep - and you can't dream without sleeping!

If you sleep for only 4 hours its best to stay awake for 90 minutes before going back to sleep. If you sleep 6 hours its best to stay awake for only a half hour. And 5 hours, I think an hours the best. The key is timing it so your REM cycle is in full gear when you go to sleep again. And that it's one of the longest REM cycles of the night.

      Hey,

Yeah I have had great success with the WBTB method. It's kind of hard to do during the work week though so I'm only able to use it on the weekends. When I really buckle down and try to use it I have over a 50% success rate I believe.

I tried it, and I didn't succeed. I blame myself. Better luck next time...

hey it's great to actually hear from someone that's had some success in this thread, it does a lot to motivate others... including me haha. My trouble is that when I do WBTB I try it once with no success and then give up... and sometimes it leaves me a little groggy, but that's no excuse. I guess I'll start trying it seriously this week and see how it goes.

      Roller I agree.

Except my troubles is I can't keep myself up, or motivate myself to get up at 4-6am. I LOVE sleeping. It's hard.

Had a minor succes last night with WBTB, lucid for 25 secs or so.
I woke up after 3 hours of sleep, and was really tired and wanted to go for WILD instead. but since i havent given WBTB a shot for so long i thought it would be a waste if i didnt do it. So i dragged myself out of bed.. walked around a bit and read the forums. Back to bed and sleep, and a bit later in the dream i realized i was dreaming.

      Gonna do it again tonight

I really have to take my hat off to the WBTB method. After a long dry spell (I went about 3 months with only 1 LD! The pain...) I did WBTB properly for the first time last night and had a long, vivid lucid dream. I have been very happy about it all day. I woke up after 6 hours of sleep, got on the computer (which is now in my room), and went on DV for half an hour while listening to a CD which is conveniently half an hour long, and somewhat strange and dreamlike (Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell, if you must know). Then I went back to bed and said some affirmations. It worked brilliantly. I am now planning to do this as often as I can and I urge anyone having trouble LDing to try it.

EDIT: It's now two days later and I had another one. That's two in three days (66% success). I'm loving this!

Would it be a bad idea to try WBTB on a night when I have to get up early the next morning? Do you wake up feeling tired the next day?

funny you ask. Im wondering the same thing. I work at 6am monday through friday. Ive only tried once. This week actually, and it didnt work.(excluding brief lucidity that went nowhere) But I think the key is to go to sleep pretty early. Im going to try again tonight. But Im going to bed in 30 minutes. thats 8:30 here. So Ill wake at 1:30 and stay up and hour and go to sleep at 2:30. Its a good idea to have the time you go back to sleep real early in the night. 2:30 is probably perfect. When I tried it last time I went to sleep at 9:30 and woke at 3:30. Which may be good for most but since I needed to get up in an hour and a half it was hard to get back to sleep. Well, it's definately better to do it when you can sleep in and not have to worry about being anywhere. But I intend to get into a routine where I can regularly pull of the WBTB any day of the week. Well, I better get ready for bed now.

well, my second WBTB attempt, when I needed to get up early the next day, failed. 0 for 2. I think for me personally it makes a big difference if I have somewhere to be. I think it really helps to be able to sleep in. Im gonna rest from trying today. But trying WBTB is never wasted. I had some crazy dreams ,and some very pleasant ones, and rememebered all of them. But still Im gonna wait til the weekend now. Its not far off anyhow.

So Lord Soth, you gonna try again then?

What technique do you use after going back to bed? I'm starting to get scared of trying to WILD after hearing some people's experiances with it.

scared of WILD? I dont get it. Not many things in this world more exciting and invigorating than a WILD. I have had quite a few WILDs and they are always amazing and positive. Id WILD every day if I could be so blessed.

My "method" when I sleep is hardly a method. I just try and focus on any HI and imagine walkign around a dreamscape. Thats it. Just pretend Im in a lucid dream already. Eventually I drift off, sometimes have a WILD, but usually just drift off. Then I realize soon enough....excluding my last two attempts

I am really interested in learning to WILD but everyone says it is the hardest technique to learn. Also I always hear of people getting stuck, or having interesting experiences but never actually getting a lucid dream.

To someone who has attempted WILD a fair amount: Is it worth it to start learning it, or are other simpler techniques better? And when you first start does anything happen, or do you have to attempt it many times before you can even get to the vibrational stage.

Thanks, the main reason that I'm thinking twice about WILDing is the voices people talk about. I just have a feeling that once I hear them, and if the WILD doesn't work, I won't fall asleep that night.

I think this sounds like a good method. The only problem is that I don't own any books on dreaming and my computer is downstairs and my mom would definitely not approve of me getting on at 4 in the morning to look at a site about dreams.Any suggestions? Wait! I could just think very hardly about what I want to do in my LD and about LDing itself that might work...

      Any comments?

you dont need to go on a computer. I wouldnt even reccomend it. Read a dream journal if you have it. Just look around and imagine youre dreaming, Youll figure something out.

I am going to WBTB tonight, I will just read (all 6 pages of) my dream journal. Do some yoga, I don't know yoga so that would be fun.

      lolnah.

Actually... what would be good? Bright lights? Do stuff that would slightly wake me up? hardly move? Eat pie? ^___^
