the new difficulty of third person perspective dreaming...

i'm somewhat stuck on a hangup.any advice would be appreciated.

up until about a week ago my dreams were almost always in the first person. if perspective switched outside my dreambody, it was only very brief. gaining lucidity merely involved realizing i was a character in a bizarre situation.

however, lately it seems all my dreams are from the third perspective, and many seem like some bizarre independent film. i'm finding its really hard to gain lucidity while dreaming like this.

its hard to do a reality check when my awareness isn't in a body, its just a floating camera, panning over whichever scene is happening. even if "i" happen to be in a scene, i have no connection with my identity as "asher".
i simply watch it disinterestedly like a time-worn movie critic.

if anybody else has experienced this type of dreaming and has any suggestions, that'd be awesone. or if this post is unclear, i could clarify what i mean (i'm a little stoned )

nah, i understand what your sayin

only problem is i dont know how to help, perhaps you could try smoking less, while i am an advocate myself, i will point out entheogens cause a dramatic shift in consciousness

the 'high' came from someone figuring out that your consciousness actually rises to an extent when under the influence of plant's consciousness'

thats why some people (me being one of them) report 'rising' out of the flow of time when under intense psychedelics (salvia i had an oobe where i popped out of time)

and i almost did this one time when i was just really high, just i was sitting at a bar downtown and didn't feel like letting go enough to get out of the flow of time

so, perhaps you should try smoking less, or perhaps only smoking during the day and try to be relatively sober when you go to sleep

same goes for alcohol if you drink, substances of any sort cause a shift in consciousness, this could be what is causing this 3rd person perspective (i can control this at will in my ld's because it seems i feel no pain if i am farther away from the source )

      anyway, good luck bud
      Why?

I too have been experiencing thses sors of dreams lately and it is annoying though sometimes still interesting but usually totally disjointed with little continuity. I'm too boring to smoke, but do enjoy a drink or two in the evening, but this has not been to any greater degree than normal.

Next week though I'm going to lay off the booze altogether for a week as part of a detox after crimbo (been a few birthdays since) and I will see if this makes any difference. Trouble is that it seems more sociable to have a few at weekends, but it is at weekends I seem to have most LDs. Maybe the thought of not going to work or waking up so early helps promote these?

I dont drink or smoke, and dreams like this make up the majority... Dont know how to help lol, I only gain lucidity either when I an in 1st person, or if I am in 3rd person then I have to be like controlling myself, just observing from and different place. I havent obtained lucidity in the dreams where it seems sort of like a movie as you are describing

That's one thing I want to improve on is to be able to dream first person more often. That's when I find it really obvious that I'm in a dream and so much more fun. Practice makes perfect I guess.

where did you get the idea that he smoked a lot?

I am not lucid yet so I don't have any advice but a question. When dreaming in 3rd person are you controlling what you do? or is it really like your just watching a movie?

Dont worry...next time you go to bed try to visualize yourself in first person as your drifting off...imagine playing some kind of sport or something, as you get into it you'll eventually stop trying and it will feel second nature to you, if you drift slowly into sleep like this most likely you'll be in first person in a lucid dream. Try to make the dream last as long as you can. If you cant stop your dreams from ending just try spinning in circles when your vision fades, keep it going and dont think about it too hard.

hopefully next time you'll be in first person, if not you'll probably have to train your will to be able to have them in first person.

      best of luck!

GAH! this bugs me too! I havn't gone lucid while wanting to yet, and i was worried about this aswell, even when i try to sleep i think about the day or things I want to dream about in 3rd person. Most of the dreams I have are 3rd person and up untill just recently starting to keep a DJ they have been in 1st person view. I'm ADD so not getting excited or focusing my awareness isnt something i could be good at
