      dreaming while awake

i have no problems falling asleep, i can do it in seconds. i have often fallen asleep and begun dreaming and suddenly woke up within seconds while driving! not proud of that by the way. my question is, i seem to be able to fall asleep but at the same time be in touch with reality. as an example, on some nights my wife and i are watching tv and i am fully aware of what i am watching and it remains consistant the whole time, yet i am suddenly joilted by my wife saying that i had fallen asleep and was snoring. is it possible that i was lucid dreaming and if i realized it i could have started controlling it?

      Welcome somewhere else

I have had an experience a time or two like the one you explain. I believe it is because you are half conscious. This is quite different than a lucid dream. But if you allow yourself to drift into a deeper sleep, you may be able to initiate a wake initiated lucid dream (WILD).
It may be difficult to totally block out the ongoing TV to create your own dream scene. But you maybe able to incorporate what you are hearing in a dream.
I would be interested to know how that works.

I have fallen asleep while listening to some one talk once or twice, and not noticed or missed a word that they said. As far as I know in the middle of the chat they just shouted "wake up". This was at about 4:30 in the morning after a long day, so I probably did fall asleep, but then again they could have just been lying. You never know with something like this.

Listen to Howetzer, he knows what he's talking about.

      Welcome by the way .

Heh. My dad does the "half awake snoring" thing all the time. It sounds like you go into really deep daydreams or "La la land".

Your spelling is correct. I was going to suggest the same thing, actually.

i do a somewhat similar thing, i tend to use a bit more imagination and go into a bit deeper sleep

could it be possible that your consciousness is opting to stay more in the astral rather than go inside your head and 'dream' but instead keepin in touch relative with your senses enough to keep you atuned to the outside

kinda keeping your astral body awake and allowing your physical to fall asleep
      Why?
