      WILD questions for experienced WILDers

After finally successfully doing a WILD all the way into a lucid dream last night, I decided to try again today during a nap...I got very close to the sleep paralysis stage, but I keep waking myself up to almost normal conscious awareness as soon as I realize how close I am, or that I am watching an elaborate scene of hypnagogic imagery--what is the most successful method for you to get to the sleep paralysis stage? I have been bouncing back and forth between trying to concentrate on the HI and take an active role in what I'm seeing, or just trying to sit back and suddenly find myself in an HI-dream...I think maybe the reason for my failure just now during the nap was on account of not being tired enough, and feeling constrained by time.

Also, I notice that each time I am slipping away and snap back to attention to start over again, I am extremely aware of my breathing--it's almost as if when I am immersed in the HI and lose focus, my breathing immediately becomes a responsibility of my conscious mind. Any thoughts on this?

well, i'm not incredibly experienced, though i've had between 7-10 WILDs of varying clarity.

if you feel constrained by time, it hurts your chances...as far as getting to the SP stage, i simply relax...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. though if i am trying to make it happen, it doesn't arrive. i think relaxation and allowing it to come in its own good time are neccessary for the way i use. there may be other more efficient methods which others can suggest.

don't ever consciously tell yourself to breath while attempting a WILD. about half a dozen times i have been very close to WILDing, in the full immersion of SP, and feel that i am not breathing, and must tell myself to...must consciously control it.
each time it broke my concentration and i awoke completely. i know this is coming at it from the opposite end as you are describing, but its really the same thing.
your unconscoius mind is completely capable of controlling your breathing. don't consciously control it. it will take care of itself.

oh, and now that i think of it, if you want to acheive SP very quickly, simply stay perfectly still each time you wake up during the night. after 5 hours the body returns with seconds sometimes if you don't move or start thinking alot.

i usually forget, and stretch or start thinking about whatever dream i just had, but the times i stay still with a clear mind SP reasserts itself almost immediately.

      good luck..
