help me to make sense of it all

      hi guys

well, still no lucid dream, but I think I'm discovering other things going on as a result of paying such attention to these things..... and I'm sure it's all connected!

ok, firstly, the other night I remembered a whole nights' dreaming (or so I think). The last part of the dream I was remarrying Matt (maybe cos he lost his wedding ring the other day and we are going to get a new one on the insurance, but he says it won't mean the same so I've been thinking of things I can do to try and recreate the meaning.....). But I was in this cheapy motel place and I had about fifteen minutes to get dressed, I hadn't planned any of it out. I looked in the wardrobe and found THREE dresses to choose from. So I tried two on, and the second one, although I was aware it was not my usual style, was the ONE. It just suited me so well. So here's the point - I was spending quite a lot of time in this dream looking in a mirror. In fact there were two mirrors - a full size one (I was looking at me in just a pair of tights at one point and it REALLY looked like me). But when I put on this Spanish style wedding dress, I all of a sudden had really dark hair and olive skin (wow - I wish!). My question is, WHY did I go through this dream which seemed to last for hours, and looking in a mirror which I thought was quite significant, and NOT get lucid? I would know, if I was lucid, wouldn't I? I would remember. But the detail I remember the dream in is so much clearer than normal..........

Second thing. I have begun to notice that on falling asleep I seem to be creating "scripts" to stories. It is like the verbal element comes first, before a dream. I seem to get this as I am on the verge of sleep - if something wakes me I can remember some of the bizarre things said. I THINK it's my own voice I hear. So in relaxation in my Yoga class today, she was asking us to visualise snow with clours reflected in them. She said "violet" but then I got lost and then became aware that I had also created (and TOTALLY visualised) pink, then a peachy colour with shimmery effect in it, and the voice was saying stuff - I remember it saying "that's not fair" in relation to the peachy shimmery colour (hmm, can't recall why at all).

The point is I was not asleep, and ok maybe I was on the verge, but it was very light sleep, and the book I have on LDing says that you have to move through various stages of sleep before you can dream. What is going on with these scripted stories then???

Sorry it's so long, but maybe if you guys can help me make sense of it I can make some progress!

Hmm not sure about your second point, but as for your first it sounds like you're really close! My dreams kept getting longer and more vivid, until 2 days ago I finally had a full size lucid dream.

oh nice one redstar soldier, congratulations! I get lazy, perhaps when I wake up at 6am I should write down stuff then rather than waiting til I wake later.

oooh, I hope I can follow in your footsteps!!

oh and another thing, last night was much less clear and the recall was not so good, but at one point there were monsters coming to get us, and I was sure that I could get rid of them just by pointing my hands at them (a bit like a super hero with magic powers) now I don't recall thinking "this is a dream so I can do this" but something did make me think that in this situation, all I needed was my power of thought. I THINK it worked too........

I think most of us in this forum have had dreams where opon awakening we thought- How the %$%*& could we not have realized we were dreaming. But thats the way it goes somtimes. Thats why its a good sign that you are remembering more of your dreams, because in return, you will be able to recall dream signs to become lucid rather than chance.
The second thing could be somthing called a hynogogic state (although you think you are asleep you are kind of in between) I could be misunderstanding that part though. Either way good luck

wow Seeker, do you really think so? I don't know, but that would be so cool I can't help thinking that that thing with the super hero hands - that it was me attempting to become lucid...... I think I misinterpreted it incorrectly in the dream (i.e. "with positive thinking anything is possible" which I seem to recall thinking, rather than "I am dreaming so anything is possible").

Shadownightwing, I think you're right - about a week ago I actually managed to tell myself "I am dreaming!" but unfortunately woke up almost immediately That night was after I had neglected my dream journal, this forum and reading about LDing for over a week.

Howetzer, maybe....... it's weird though, cos I really thought you had to be in a certain later stage of sleep to dream, but this is almost like I feel myself going into a dream as I'm going to sleep (and like I hear this voice "narrating" the story)..... to follow with what I've read it would have to go away on falling fully asleep, which is perfectly possible.

Not if you're doing MILD. That's kind of the point.

well I was useless last night I woke up at 6, took me a while to even remember anything then I remembered a reasonable amount. Then silly me thinks "I know, let's try a WILD". So I didn't actually get anywhere with that (well, I felt my arms go to sleep, it's a start I suppose) but managed to put myself into this no good half sleep state (you know the kind you get when you're having trouble sleeping, and then you realise you don't know if you've been asleep or not) then I got some more sleep for about an hour and couldn't remember a damn thing....... the only thing I know is that every time I woke up I had Flaming Lips "Fight Test" playing in my head, so that may have been the soundtrack to my dreams.

Tonight had better be an improvement!!

WAAH your avatar moves... Thats very weird when you're reading text to the right, and suddenly something moves in the corner of your eyes and its not moving, and you're left thinking, WTF? And then read on... and then AGAIN! Evil!!!

Book-lover I think you know as well as anyone here that it takes patience, and you're showing progress
Its hard to get lucid because your brain goes into 'retard mode' when you're asleep and accepts just about anything...

now now! aye aye, eh eh!

CT, my avatar is sweet isn't she? I was just thinking though, I hope she is a she (although it doesn't really matter at all, does it). I never thought of her as evil before!!

I do agree to an extent that it can sneak up on you (but I'm a passifist and am no way taking sides here). This is cos it did with me about a week ago (when I said "I'm dreaming" then woke up, damn!) and also 8 years ago when I had that weird WILD/OBE whatever experience with the fractal serpent thing - I was sleep deprived, I was NOT intending that to happen (although I am quite pleased that it did).

Anyway, I need everyone to be nice to each other today, to the extent of being sickly sweet nice to each other if necessary. I need to remain in a positive frame of mind (and I may or may not tell you why in a few days time).
