Last night when I woke up in the middle of the night...

It was about 4 hours after I fell asleep. My brother was up until 3 am playing video games as usual and I did a RC for the hell of it and I was awake. I went downstairs and told him to lower it because he thinks we can't hear it when we're asleep. I go upstairs and get back into bed. I didn't feel like doing a WBTB and I was asleep only 4 hours so I didn't bother even trying.

I'm sure this has happened to everybody during their normal lives. All of a sudden you hear a high pitched ring in one of your ears. Well this time, I wasn't even in bed 5 minutes and instead of a high monotonic noise, it was a low monotonic noise. It's the first time I've heard one at that frequency my whole life. It went away after about 15 seconds and I managed to get it come back in little waves for about a minutes but it went away after that.

Has anyone experienced this monotonic low sound before? I doubt it was HI or anything like that because I hadn't done a thing to bring it about and I was only in bed for a couple of minutes.
Wait!! .......Am I dreaming right now?

Interesting - and I know the high pitched sound in your ears you're talking about. Very weird sensation.

And you don't think it was HI? You may having started to drift off and didn't realize.

      Hey Fu!
Careful with being specific about spans of time when you're talking about getting up and back to sleep throughout the night -- the mind has a funny way of messing with ALL aspects of perception - not just sound and images.

It's possible you were in bed for longer than you think. Ever try meditating without falling asleep? Sometimes I'll lie in bed and try to clear my thoughts. Eventually I "zone out" and something wil SNAP me back into awareness. Sometimes it feels like I had fallen asleep between the time I lost all thought and the "snap" - but in fact only a couple minutes would have gone by. And vice versa can happen.

Well, I usually toss and turn in bed for a little while before finally seddling down. And since my digital clock is next to me, I see it every other twist. When I was hearing the tone, my eyes were closed but I opened them up and sat up one time. So I really don't know what to think of this.

i know what you're talking about...that is, i think i do: all of a sudden a high pitched noise (slightly different frequency than tinnitus--for me it is sometimes pretty low) registers in only one ear and then seems to sort of blend in with everything else and it's not really possible to distinguish. i have no idea what this is, or why it happens. i assumed it only happened to me, and was the precursor to braincancer or something. good to know i'm not going to die alone.

On more than one occasion, I have felt the low vibrations. Typically, it happens after higher pitched ringing, and then the lower, light saber like vibrations signal a WILD about to happen. I've actually felt those vibrations while dreaming too. I have posted several of these experiences in Aquanina's Good Vibrations topic.
