I've never done it, but i'm sure it would be more exciting than it would be scary.

I have done it a few times, and I can say it is definately way more exciting than scary.

      keep your clarity of mind...

If you keep your clarity of mind/fixity of purpose, then nothing should intimidate/dissuade you from your purpose. No fear with ignorance displaced with the armament of knowledge and purpose.

Be prepared to 'hear' a lot of strange sounds though - they can be unsettling without prior knowledge of them.

May include freight train rumblings, vibrations, screeching, radio stations changing rapidly, voices, gunshot sounds, choirs singing, laughter, your name being called etc...

These may also act as a prelude to an out of body experience - and who's to say that your lucid dream isn't just that - a 70-80% attention-focused OBE?
Upgrading a LD to an OBE can be surprisingly simple with a powerful internal command to do so.
Maybe LD's are like guide dogs waiting for us, the blind, to give them a cue to a 'higher action'....an OBE.

Don't be frightened by the hypnagogic imagery and sounds!

      Or the sleep paralysis

Yeah its not scary at all. What you have to remember is that nothings ever going to harm you. Maybe the not so fun part about it would be sleep paralysis, if you've never experienced it but this is nothing to fear, because thats your Roundtrip Ticket to the Wide World Of WILDS. And all the noises you hear believe me you'll get use to them with noooo problem.

Honestly, when I was little, WILD's scared the living shit outta me. I didn't know what was going on, hearing loud surging noises, and feeling paralyzed.....obviously pretty heavy stuff for a kid to understand. As I grew up I learned to really enjoy them, and when I read LaBerge's book, I finally understood that it's perfectly normal.

If you know whats going on its nothing. If you never heard of this stuff before and just started hearing all the sounds and stuff it would freak you out. I am pretty sure after the first sound or two you would move and it would all stop, but then you might be scared to go back to sleep heh.

I do think, however, that hearing my voice being called or screaming, would scare the shit out of me.

Usually you're so focused upon trying to become fully lucid or out of your body that ANY sounds are looked upon as curious oddities that you think, "hmmm...that sounded weird".

I once had a loud gunshot that scared the woolies out of me but afterwards I thought "Dugh! This is what you're trying to achieve!"

Just bring some common sense to the experience. The level of detachment you need to remain in control of the experience makes you resist the urge to respond emotionally.

      I can't see the problem..

for me the first time i had an obe i didn't know what the hell was going on. i was in my room and suddenly i started floating up and through the ceiling. honestly I was a little scared. but then when I read more, understood more, I become alot more curious and I shifted and fear of something strange or different into curiousity about what I could discover. I think the more you know about what might happen the less fearful it becomes. So my suggestion is just learn to expect the unexpected and dive into it. When you do have those different sensations you'll say to yourself 'ahhh, i expected this...' and you will relax and move through it into the lucid dream or obe.

bottom line. when you do this stuff you are like explorers charting totally new territory, you will discover all kinds of new stuff. If you approach it with curiousity and an open mind, you'll have the chance to discover amazing things.
