      Oddities with WILD

      How's it going, fellow dreamers?

I've been experimenting with WILD for the past week or so, and haven't been able to hit quite a few milestones in the process. First of all, I always attempt/start the procedure the first time I wake up, or right before napping. So far, I've reached a very deep state of relaxation, but I still haven't experienced HI, SP, or any form of each (including internal sound). Is it impossible for some people to stay conscious when these things happen, or am I just throwing in the towel too early?

      Thanks,
      Matt

i've tried doing WILD after i woke up in the middle of the night once and i can't focus at all and i fell asleep before even really starting

but i've gotten very close right before bed and during the afternoon, unfortunately i haven't been able to try for a while because my spring break is over and sleep is more important to me right now than a LD, i might try to get to bed earlier tonight to see if i can do it, but if i can't get anywhere within like half an hour i'll have to stop and try again tomorrow afternoon or on the weekend

but have you been doing anything anything to keep yourself thinking a little, like counting to yourself or something, it would probably help you if your problem is staying conscious, my problems then were trying not to think about something like an itch or my throat being dry, but i think i've gotten a lot better at that

i heard it's easier to do after like 5 or 6 hours of sleep but if you have the time it wouldn't hurt to try it right before you go to bed, i know it's possible to WILD before you go to bed, i haven't ever done a WILD though (only been trying for like 10 days at most so far)

so far i've gotten SP, a little bit of HI (i think one time a dream was starting to form but i focused to much and it went away, i could see the sky and the ground starting to form) i've had sounds too, the ones i heard might sound a little creepy to other people but i've enjoyed everything i've gone through during WILD lol

Awesome, thanks. Yea, I haven't tried counting or focusing on my breathing.. I'll try that tonight, and I'll try it before bed.

It is a LOT harder to WILD just before you go to bed because it can take up to 1 1/2 hours to reach REM sleep once you have fallen asleep, and even the the REM period only lasts 5 minutes or so. The optimum time for WILD is afternoon naps or after 5-6 hours of sleep. It takes less time to reach REM sleep in these cases and the REM period lasts a lot longer (up to 1 1/2 hours)
I'd suggest waking up after 5-6 hours of sleep, stay awake for 15 minutes (1 hour if you can) and then attempt WILD
      Hope this helps.

Interesting. Thanks a lot Ubik- will definitely try this tonight. Heh, the problem for me with waking up 5 hours after sleep, is that everyone is sleeping and, for some reason, I feel sort of uncomfortable and slightly scared. At that time of night, my most vicious and fearful human instincts arise to the surface, whereas in the daytime, I can easily suppress them with rational and logical thinking. Heh, fun stuff.

      Thanks again,
      Matt

lol. I know what you mean. I know it sounds a bit childish but If it's possible turn a light on or put the TV on at a low level, it helps take away the fear.

Heh, okay. Actually, a few nights ago I attempted WILD, and got way past the paranoia. You can read about it here... the attempt actually led to a successful LD!
