W.I.L.D. First time of the night you hit the sack?

I'm trying mainly to get a W.I.L.D, because I'm not having much success with reality tests or anything else. I can tell myself on the way to bed to wake up after every dream, and I will - but I can't tell myself to becume lucid, hence my attempts at WILD. Everwhere I read about it, it says to sleep 5-6 hours, THEN w.i.l.d.. However, I stay up past 10:00 and have to get up at 5:50 for school, and getting up at 3:50 to WILD is unseccussful, and messes up my sleep pattern, making me tired the nect day. What I want to know is if it's possible to go to bed for the first time that night (10:00) and get a W.I.L.D., or does that violate the magic rules of sleep stages? --- log off the internet > brush teeth > go to bed > W.I.L.D. > lucid dream.... ---Can anybody do that?
I am of the belief that right now I am dreaming, and that you are all characters, therefore if you don't please me I'll just zap you to the cornfield like that little boy from the Twilight Zone. Or maybe I'm a Schitzo.

it's possible and that's what i'm trying for. but it takes concentration and time... i've gotten through some stages of it but i haven't been successful. i'm sure someone who's more proficient at it can elaborate. in the meantime, welcome to the forum, have a banana, and read this to quell some of your questions.

Ohhhhh yes. I have WILD'ed many times right after going to bed. It works best if you're a little (or a lot!) sleep-starved from the night before. Your mind and body will be so ready to recharge your batteries that you'll go into a dream (lucid or otherwise) pretty much right away.

I suggested this to someone a while ago on this site: Try staying up all night on a Friday night and then all day Saturday. When you go to bed Saturday night, close your eyes, relax, and concentrate on letting your body really sink in. Since you'll be very tired, you have to be careful to not to lose consciousness while falling asleep. My first sign that I'm about to WILD is that my breathing gets a lot deeper. Then ringing sounds come into my head, then images appear out of the blackness....sometimes they are lights, and sometimes they are objects. If you get to that point - and it's different for everybody - you're well on your way to a good WILD experience! If you're worried that you'll lose consciousness and blow the whole show, just set your alarm for an hour later and do it again. That'll give you a chance to either try again, or to do another one!

I really believe that by staying up all night the night before, you at least DOUBLE your chances of a WILD or at least a lucid dream.

Thanks. Actually, I had made my way to Lucid Crossroads earlier, just by chance. I'm still working on a WILD, but I'm determined!

      Tjhands:

That sounds like something we've been talking about in my psychology class. Last month was the chapter on sleep and its different stages. The book said that if you miss certain cycles of sleep, you're much more likely to have them.

Usually when you go to sleep you have to go through several stages (1-4 of NREM) to get to REM sleep (where most dreaming takes place) I think it usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes to get to the REM stage after first falling asleep.

The book said something to the effect that if you are deprived of REM sleep (which you most definately would be after being awake for 30+ hours) you'd skip the first 4 stages and go directly into REM sleep when you go to bed.

So, yeah, I would think that a WILD could be done much more easily after being awake for a looooong time. Kind of an extreme method, but...

Q: What is a Wild dream?
      A:
WILD is a technique for inducing lucidity. Unlike MILD, lucidity is attained at the very start of the dream. The key principle of a WILD is to maintain consciousness throughout the process of falling into sleep. This may sound like a paradox, but sleep does not necessarily require an unconscious state. Difficult to master (I haven't yet), WILD is argubly more effective at inducing lucidity than MILD, but requires devotion.
