Well, what usually works for me is to repeat to myself "I will awaken after I dream, and I will remember the dream" as I'm trying to fall asleep. It doesn't work every time, but most nights this will result in waking up after 4-6 hours, with a fresh dream in my mind. If you've just started trying this, give it some time -- it may take your mind several days or even a couple of weeks to start "listening" to your suggestions.

I've found that saying "I will wake up after each dream period, and I will remember my dream" without internal dialogue seems to help but is difficult for me. The first time I tried it, I woke up at 4am. But once the sun came out I found it harder to go back to sleep. Now for some odd reason I wake up at 2am, could it be my subconsiousness? I read about it in the HILD tutorial but I'm too paranoid to mess around with my subconsiousness

Saltcube timer is an alarm that runs on your computer (you don't have to get out of bed) . I'm really bad at explaning things, but it's really easy!!! just go to www.saltcube.com. It's free also. I hope it helps.

Hell I don't know, but sometimes if I time it right a very soft alarm will wake me, but if I got it wrong not even cannon fire would wake me. I think it has to do with waking up at the end of a sleep cycle.

On any case, you can only wake up naturally after training yourself to wake at a certain time. Telling yourself to wake up doesn't work. You're going to have to use an alarm...
