Ok, I set up my laptop for 3:30AM to play a message that was short "dreaming ... Red XIII" so that I would be able to have a goal in the dream, which is to meet that character. When I set it up I made sure the volume was not too low or too high.

Well, it didn't wake me up, which is a good thing, but I don't recall hearing it. I had set another sound to wake me up at 3:40AM. I'm not sure if 10 minutes is too long between implanting the voice and initiating the wake up.

I'm wondering if there is a way to know whether this dream input worked, or maybe how to tell in the future. I've seen other lucid dreaming audios on this site, and was more interested in finding ways to determine their effectiveness. For all I know it may have worked and I just don't remember.

Well I've done quite a bit of research with audio and autosuggestion. I've had quite a few success where the voices do in fact come in the dream and triggers a lucid. Volume is everything, your sleep time and REM periods all count as well. I've had nights where I never lost contact with the audio throughout the whole lucid, then there were nights I heard nothing.

So should I have more than three words in the autosuggestion? How long should my recording talk for? What kinds of things do you say? I ask because I can't think of what to say for like 10 minutes that my dream self wouldn't get bored over.

In reality I dont think you would get bored due to there is such a short window that the voices will creep into the dream. I wrote scripts like this depending on the situation. First I would do affirmations that I'm dreaming and to go lucid, then I would try to carry out task. (example below).

      This is a dream.

      You are dreaming.

      Do a reality check now.

Rub your hand together to stay lucid.

      Poject to your friends house.

      (repeat).

I take it you like Donnie Darko from your freaky avatar. It's one of those interesting films up there with Butterfly Effect and Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I'll give that a try what you recommended. I'll probably put a minute of silence in between each time I do that since I may have about a 10-15 minute window of REM by the 5th hour.

Yeah, I like all three of those movies! Sounds like you've got a good plan!

I've been trying to use recordings for about 2-3 days now, and I think I have found a volume for my dialogue that won't just wake me up. I let it loop for 15 minutes and then play a soft tone to wake me up after this so I can recall the dreams.

Though the dialogue doesn't wake me up, I don't have any recall of hearing it in my dreams. It's like it is either too quiet or too loud, and there seems to not be a good volume for me. I guess I could keep trying.

Yeah, it takes a while but eventually they will creep in your dreams at the correct time in your REM period.
