      i recently figured out a way to wake up after about 6 hours of sleep despite my having to get up very early in the morning and my brother sleep in my room. so i figured i'd try and learn to WILD or at least make it to sleep paralysis. i have a problem though:

      whenever i'm closing my eyes and start to repeat to myself phrases, and as i'm trying to concentrate on the blackness my eyelids kind of ease themselves open w/o me trying to. at first its very, very slight to the point were it looks like i'm starting to see flashes of colors, but as they keep opening i realized: "hey this is my room, my eyes are opening." so i open up all the way, blink a few times and try again.

      again my eyes open. and again. and again. am i doing something wrong? am i trying too hard to concentrate on the blackness? my thoughts don't wander that much. i may get a random thought here and there but not anything extreme.

      Well, it sounds as if you are not in a relaxed state in which to sleep (WILD) at that moment.

      If you were to fall asleep, you would be doing so with your eyes closed, unless the room is pitch black. So, being that they are opening, I guess it makes sense to make the assumption that you are not fully tired/relaxed to correctly enter the WILD.

      Earlier today I began my attempt with the same problem as you...eyes were jittery and really making it hard to do anything more. After slowing my breath, and fully relaxing, my eyes easily shut. Just control yourself, or require more sleep.

      For me, I've been trying a few WILDs (I didn't do the whole wake-up thing yet, I want to get my dream recall better) and have found that when actually getting deeper into the WILD, my eyes start moving and it's hard to keep my eyelids closed. Usually I just start focusing to keep them closed, yet still concentrating on the imagery. It doesn't seem to have gotten to the point where they open yet, I just divert a little attention to keep them closed.

      EDIT: Oh, btw, I wouldn't try to 'look' at the blackness. It's better, in my opinion, to look sorta beyond it--almost passively, yet still remotely interested.

      Dream sailor is probably correct, you are most likely not relaxed enough. This is a common problem that I also experience. Just try to relax more and then repeat your phrases.
      Also, if you can't seem to relax, throw a pillow over your eyes so that they are forced shut. Even if they don't stay closed then, the pillow will form a darkness so that you won't see a difference between your eyes being open/closed.

      o.k. so tonight i'll try it again, only this time i will try and "meditate" for a few minutes longer before attempting wild. hopefully it'll work out better this time.

      i was actually thinking of combining it with the wbtb method. maybe i'll come on here in the middle of the night and give you guys the update. or do you think its probably better to stick with just wilds for the time being? i'm new to the whole wild "scene" and you guys seem to know what your talking about. tips?

      also, will i have to recall what happened during the the HI stage in the morning after its occured, like it were a dream? or will i just remember it because i saw it with a concious mind?
