Nothing.
I haven't had a successful WILD yet either; it takes a lot of practice for some people. I suggest you learn the
61-point relaxation technique because just imagining your body to become heavy won't make you relaxed enough for WILD unless you are incredibly susceptible to hypnosis. By the way, saying "I'm breathing" won't accomplish anything. If you don't think you can keep your focus on counting, throw "I'm
dreaming" in between the numbers. That way, when you get to a high-enough number (e.g. 128), you will say "I'm dreaming" and realize that you really are dreaming.
Before resorting to the counting technique, try to WILD by focusing on hypnagogic imagery (HI). The basic procedure is as follows:
1. Go to bed early.
2. Before you lie down or when you first get into bed, tell yourself that you'll wake up after each dream period and remember your dreams. State a specific time (about six hours after you go to bed) around which you definitely want to awaken.
3. Go to sleep on your back (for the purpose of this specific routine).
4. When you wake up around six hours later, try not to move at all.
5. Keeping your eyes closed, perform the 61-point relaxation technique.
6. If you are not relaxed enough, use Sythix's
reverse blinking trance induction.
7. Clear your thoughts and try not to let your mind wander.
8. Passively observe light patterns, geometric shapes, and other HI.
9. The HI should gradually become more and more realistic and dream-like.
10. When you know you're ready, allow yourself to be whisked into the scenery.
11. Remind yourself that you're dreaming and congratulations!
I cannot stress how important getting a good night's sleep is. Try for at least nine hours on nights in which you intend to practice WILD. Although telling yourself to remember your dreams upon wakening for WILD is not strictly necessary (in contrast to MILD), it should help you wake up at the desired time. I don't advise setting an alarm clock and/or doing WBTB with WILD because you'll be most relaxed (hence it will be easier to WILD) when you first wake up. If you just can't seem to observe or visualize HI, you can try the counting technique. Good luck with lucid dreaming!
