Hi, basically, ive been working on my dream recall awhile
      Ive had one DILD
after an unsuccesful WILD attempt, i do regular RCs
ive been attmepting to WILD recntly
and last night I counted my breath until I reached 600 and all ID experinced was tingling, and my jaw becoming very numb
You see I have 2 move on a regular basis, I dont mean my limbs or anything, but as saliva gathers in my mouth it becomes impossible not to swallow it,
will swallowing my saliva, and therefore using my mouth and throat muscles hinder my WILD?
if so, is there anyway to go about solving this problem?
      I'd appreicate some help
      Thank you
      Imran

This may seem like an obvious question - but are you sure you weren't already dreaming when you got to the tingling?

The reason I ask is that often when I WILD there is no hint that I'm dreaming. If I don't RC, I'll dream of laying in bed or wherever!

Do you recognize hypnogogic imagery? Are you seeing anything at all?

I've never paid much attention to the need to swallow. Outside distractions are far more of an issue with me. I'm sure others will chime in.

Congratulations on the DILD! My best lucids have all come that way.

You might search on FILD... a lot of people seem to have good success with that.

You could construct a tool to drain the silivia from your mouth. I would suggest using some sort of tube like, medical tubing. You can put one end in your mouth and the other to any sort of suction device.

      Could work.

Was that an honest suggestion? Im confused as to how that would work, and I wouldnt no how to go about constructing it
on the other hand what im really trying to get at here if anyone could help me is, does anyone else have this problem
and is this something that would hinder my WILD
because im sure everyone needs to swallow, whilst lying i nbed, so how do people get round it? is simply not thinking about doing it enough?

have you tried lying in different positions when you are trying to go to sleep? for instance on your side, on your back, stomach, etc... whenever i try to WILD (i have once or twice) saliva never is a problem for me. its just a suggestion.

Try some relaxation methods before you lay down. Meditate for maybe 15 to 30 mins or so. Give your body some time to wind down before you lay down and attempt to WILD.

I was happily WILDing away today, and felt I was getting really close to acheiving a lucid, feeling really dissasociated, when just at that moment i remembered this thread, as soon as I remembered, saliva startied gathering in my mouth and had to swallow about 20 times, i got real annoyed and lost all concentration

For me, if i dont think about it, it doesn't happen, but when i think about it, it does. So as long as you dont think about it, which is very hard, it wont happen.

So am i right in saying the swallowing is not a porblem as i will ahve to do that anyway, the actual porblem is being aware that im swallowing?
because I do assume that even those people that have succesful WILDs are swallowig frequently, just not knowing they are doing it?
If there is any experienced WILDers who could shed light for me that would be appreicated.

The problem isn't that your aware your swallowing, its that you think its a problem. Just swallow when you need to and don't give it much thought. This happens regularly to me during meditation and I just bring my attention back to my point of focus.

I always have the opposite problem, my mouth gets too dry at night. I think it is because I have allergies and I am always taking antihistamines and decongestants and stuff. Maybe something like that would help but it is not probably worth taking just for that.

I have that same problem with the saliva building up and I have heard from others that the best idea is to swallow it, get it over with, and move on with the WILD. You can't really do anything about the saliva because it is a natural process of the body. Worrying about swallowing is probably just going to expedite the buildup of more saliva. I say just swallow it and move on.

I've only had a few successful WILDs, but they are have turned out to be the best LDs for me. Mostly because I attempt them in the morning after I've slept for about 6 or 7 hours. They are tough to get, but don't give up. Good luck.
