It worked with me, doesn't mean it will work with somebody else but anyway. Grab your left elbow by your right hand, then do the same with the other hand and try to twist them. If it's a dream you should be able to twist the hands, in reality it's not possible to do that.

      Any comments?

Cool, sounds like very useful RC. I'll try to remember and test how it works in my LD's.

I can see someone doing this RC in a discrete manner. It would just look like you're holding your arms together because you're cold. *sigh* It's tough staying undercover from the rest of the population sometimes.

This has inspired me to think of some more RC's:
Pull a finger back, trying to make it touch the back of the hand. I didn't try it in a dream, but I suppose that it will work.
Also any other kind of joint movement that is impossible in waking life - like turning your head 180 degress - might work in a dream. I will try to remember to test it when I am lucid.

Yeah, those are good too! Any RC that can be done discretely in real life is a good one. I crack my joints a lot, hehe, so dodobird's RCs are perfect.

I tested the pull finger back RC in an LD I had a few nights ago, and it worked very well. I tried it several times during the dream, whenever I wanted to make sure I am dreaming, and every time I could pull it much further than is possible in waking life, so my conclusion is that - at least for me - this is a good RC.

Nice ! How did you guys stumble across these ? You were cracking your fingers in your dream and realized that they were too flexible ?

I got the idea of the finger one from the first post in this thread. It suggested doing a movement that is impossible to do with the elbows, so I figured why not extend it to any easily accessible joint, where the movement is clearly limited in waking life.

That's not really impossible in waking life; I can pull all of my fingers back to within an inch of the back of my hand

When you are in the dream world, we can all agree that anything we want, we can make happen. This "reality" holds true for reality checks as well. If you firmly believe that something is a reality check, it will work as one. One of my favorites is when I do a reality check, I touch something and in a dream it turns to chocolate. I then eat the chocolate and then have fun in the LD! What fun

Yes, if you are very flexible than it wouldn't work for you, but you can try another joint that is not that flexible, such as pulling the hand back at the wrist to touch the back of the arm.

Oh my, dodobird! That finger one is perfect for me! I've just realized that most of my dreams have dream characters, which is why I don't nose check (unless it's a false awakening) in those dreams. Now I have a perfect RC to do when other people are around! (Because face it: staring at your hand doesn't always work, and poking your palm still looks funny).

I just thought of another good one: try to sneeze with your eyes open.

      actually it isn't...
but that just goes to show how bad a a reality check that is since people can't even tell if their eyes are open in real life...
