This technique is the one endorsed by Carlos Castaneda's guide, Don Juan, in the book Journey to Ixtlan. Before going to sleep one must look at one's hands and say to oneself: "Later, when I am dreaming, I will look at my hands and realise that I am dreaming." While dreaming, one must look at one's hands, then look around and repeat the procedure throughout the dream.[22][23] [/b]
has anyone actually tried this before?does it work?

I've heard of people doing similar things and I think it worked for some people.

sounds like a technique that would take some practice, so you can get that into your mind that you will look at your hands in dream.

I've know about that technique since about 1983. I've never used it to become lucid, bt it sounds like a combination of MILD and reality checking to me. A very weak form.

I would recommend practicing reality checks based off dream signs you find in your journal, this tends to lead to lucid dreaming quicker. If I remember correctly, it took Don Juan many months if not years to have his first lucid dream using that method.

This is the technique that I first used years ago and the only time I've been lucid. I was reading the book before I went to sleep and did what he said and lo and behold..."BAM".....that night I had the lucid dream!

So your question is "does it work?"

My answer is it worked the first time for me but not after that.

This technique was first developed by the Sufis around 1200 AD.

ive read all his books. I recall carlos castaneda saying that despite months/years of reality checking with his hands, after he developed an all round, every-day-life sensory mindfulfullness, then he started achieving real success with lucid dreaming.

According to anthropological research done concerning the Wanahino people of south america, they had done extensive experiments into something like the field of epistemology and had mastered the art and science of lucid dreaming. They are reported to have used their hands as a sort of anchoring devise for dreaming. So that, by questioning reality repeatedly, they formed a direct connection between themselves and the dreaming world. Eventually many of them, once successful oneironauts, could use their dreams to learn many skills. One skill mastered in the dream world is that of flying. Eventually the Wanahino people learned to fly in the real world. This led them to believe they no longer needed the gods. Then the gods destroyed them and started posting b.s. information on 21st century message boards.
