Cool

Description of technique:

1. Find a friend (or multiple) who wants to lucid dream as well (or at least will help you).

2. Pick a RC trigger.

An RC trigger is an object, action, etc, you pick to attach an RC to. In other words, you make it a habit so that every time you see this object or do this action, etc, then you do a reality check. For example, every time I walk through a doorway, I do a reality check.

3. Everytime you or your friends see this RC trigger you all have to say "RC!" or "Reality check!"

4. The trick is to REMEMBER TO ALWAYS ACTUALLY PERFORM A REALITY CHECK after you or your friends say it.

If you say "RC!" or "Reality check!" but don't actually investigate some thought into whether or not you are dreaming, chances are you will probably do the same thing in a dream! Imagine waking up one morning and realizing that you had yelled "RC!" or "Reality check!" in your dreams, but had failed to ACTUALLY DO a reality check and, thus, never became lucid!

5. Basically, nobody wins at this game, but if you forget to say "RC!" or "Reality check!", then you lose. You have to play this game 24/7. This will work especially well if you live on a college campus in a dorm or have roommates.

6. YOU WILL START HAVING LD's ONCE THE GAME BECOMES REFLEXIVE AND YOU SAY "RC" OR "REALITY CHECK!" (AND ACTUALLY COMPLETE ONE) WITHOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT IT.

Ideas for RC triggers:

Walking through doorways!
Turning on the lights (light-switch)!
Going outside!
Seeing food!
Everytime you see a bathroom!
Getting in a car!
Sitting down!
Standing up!
Getting bitten by a vampire (joke)!

Be creative! Tips: Make sure it is something you are likely to do often in dreams. Also make sure it is something you are likely to do often around your friends or throughout your waking life.

Ideas for RCs:

Plug your nose, try to breath!
Think about what you did that day... How did you get where you are right now?
Look at a digital clock, look away, look back... Is it different?
Try to fly!

Tips: Be sure to really question whether you are dreaming. If you always do a simple "Am I dreaming? No." Then you are likely to develop a habit of the answer "No" and then you will actually answer "No" in your dreams. Not good.

I don't think I'd be willing to shout out loud when I perform reality checks, but this topic really made me think. If anyone has a friend after the same thing, just casually saying something to each other that tells you to RC -- trigger or otherwise -- would be great. Eventually, if this person was in a dream, you or he/she would mention said thing (as eventually I suppose it'd be habit to associate the person's appearance with RCing), and you'd discover that you were dreaming. I'd probably feel guilty if I didn't hang with this DC after he/she made me lucid, but then again I shouldn't need to feel that way if it's not the actual person (I wouldn't mention the abandonment to the real-life friend though ).

Thanks a lot for the idea, I should try this with a friend who took a psychology class in school.

Here is an idea.
Its a variation from a game i know.

There are two friends who share the idea of LDing.
You make a bet. example (20$ , a favor, or whatever you want)
Then each time one of them gives something , ( anyhting! the salt , a glass of water , a lighter , etc)
to the other , the receiver will have to say the key phrase "Am i dreaming?" and perform an RC.
If he forgets any of these two then the first one has to say an end phrase (ex. "You are dreaming" , "i win" , "you forgot" , "i rule" etc. ) and collects the bet.

Make sure the bet not to be something you may say "I really don't care even if i lose".
More than two ppl can take part in this.^^

I shall try this with my friend at school, as he always relies on me to tell him to RC every half an hour. Should be fun to try, and easier than the watch method.

I also don't like the idea of yelling out every time I reality check, and don't know anyone who's after LDing, but the idea is really good. If I lived on a college campus I would try it. Have you actually tried this StJohnny? and how well did it work?

StJohnny, I really like your idea of making a game out of it. The idea of "losing" actually makes the RCs seem that much more urgent. I like it.

You don't have to really yell... You can just say it... without yelling... just saying.. you know

But umm yeah it's a work in progress right now. So I'll let you guys know how well it starts working. Right now my friend and I just need to get in the habit of always playing it; we've been busy lately and haven't been thinking as much about the game. I'll let you guys know how our results turn out. I mean it's a simple idea, I can't see there being anything wrong with it.
