      Thumbs up

I've been practicing lucid dreaming for about a week, recently I've become aware of Sleep Paralysis.

During the past 3 or 4 nights I have achieved this state of sleep paralysis before falling into sleep. Being caught by complete surprise by this sensation I begin to panic, I found my heart beating at a rapid rythm and a difficulty to breath normally, heavy breaths, gasping for air etc.

The SPs will usually last from 10-20 seconds.

I'm curious to how one can remain calm during this state, any techniques or advice that anybody might have.

Also, I'm a little confused on what exactly I am to do when I reach this state. Am I supposed to drift into dreaming straight after or during the SP and how would one achieve this?

The first SP was done using a breathing technique, the last few were achieved through the use of the brainwave mind voyage cds.

      Thanks for any help

When i achieve sleep paralysis i am usually listening to something, be it music or an induction CD, so i focus on that.
I actually have come to enjoy the feeling of sleep paralysis and now like to stay in that feeling as long as possible.
When i meditate i can hold sleep paralysis for what seems like forever until i become so relaxed i can't anymore and drift off, or wake up.

I don't mind the feeling of SP at all, I think it's the fact that I am over excited by the sensation. I'll try to focus on the CD rather than on the feelings which I am experiencing. Do you find that trying to hold the SP increases your chances of drifting into a dream state?

Personally, I believe it helps a great deal. If you find yourself able to surrender yourself completely to the paralysis, you can let yourself "fall," (although this is not quite the right word) straight into a lucid dream. Try closing your eyes and telling yourself that when you open them, you will have control. Another option is to simply take control of your dream right then and there. If you experience an astral self at the time, try to manipulate your hallucinations; it's all in your head, right?

Music plays on; but I lay dreaming.
The world got up, but I lay dreaming.

The whole world screams my name,
But I won&#39;t play their game.
The whole world can go to hell,
I just want to dream well.</div>

I can now, after no more than 2 months, WILD into a stable lucid dream whenever i want. I attribute this to my meditation and hold sleep paralysis for as long as possible.

      I suggest meditation to anyone who wants to achieve lucidity&#33;

Weird, I only ever used to fall into SP before waking up, not the other way round...

It will come with practice... You will get used to your SPs. Expect them and you will not be that afraid anymore and can remain fairly calm. That&#39;s how it works for me anyway.... but your SP might be scarier than mine
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.
