2.12. What is PILD (Punishment Induced Lucid Dream)?

This technique works by punishing yourself every time you fail to
realize that you were dreaming. While going to sleep, tell yourself
that you MUST become Lucid this night OR you will be punished in the
morning. Various types of punishment may be a cold shower or maybe an
electric shock. A 9 volt battery against your tongue maybe. This
technique should be used in combination with MILD. The point is to
increase your intention, and it works.[/b]
Wow... thats alittle excessive for a lucid dream.

May try spanking myself with a ruler while reciting my dreams before bed.

I usually just tie a 10 pound weight to my shlong everytime I don't have a LD. It hurts, but in a good way.

A better way to put it, would be to say, that if you don't have a lucid-dream, you won't have any candy for the day. Once you manage to have a lucid-dream, you reward yourself with some candy. It's that simple.

That certainly sounds better than a 9-volt shock or a 10-pound weight...I think that reward-punishment (RPILD?) is a slightly more efficient means of learning than straight punishment.

I tried this once. I made myself do ~70 push-ups every morning I didn't LD.

Didn't work, but I got fit in the process.

I don't know, being scared into it seems like an effective method... since you'll be like "man... if I don't lucid dream... It's gonna hurt... really bad..." :sweat2:

Yes, but lucid-dreaming should not affect your well being and physical state.

I don't think that's the right punishment, since you actually get something out of it. You'll be like "Uh, I'm fit, gonna do this more often" and then the entire idea sorta disappears. It must be something that doesn't help you at all in any way.

I'm pretty sure you don't even need to give yourself candy.

The very fact that you had a lucid dream at all is already very rewarding.

      Am I wrong?

Yes and no. If you don't get any candy, your body will get used to not getting any, and it will ignore the "punishment".

HAHA... If you don't get a lucid dream, plug your nose and try to breath through it until your out of breath. lol. That way, you can guarantee that you'll catch FAs. lol

There was this thread here on DV about 2 weeks ago where a guy wanted ideas for boring and torturous stuff....

The problem with the punishment/reward method is that you are punishing and/or rewarding your conscious mind. I figured out that my subconscious doesn't care about things like getting to eat candy or having to do push-ups. And since the SC is where dreams come from, if it doesn't care, it doesn't help.

The best I can do with this is go to bed hungry, and then I think actual physical hunger shows up in the dream, which I can then use as a DS.

I could be wrong, but I just think punishment and reward is meaningless to the SC. It has a different agenda, and mine's is to keep me from having lucid dreams.

Hey this gives me a good idea tho. The gut has a nervous system that is seperate from the brain. I wonder if it has any influence on dreams? Maybe it is the SC's weak point. Maybe that's why this is working. Of course there's not much way to manipulate that other than eating or not eating, and I've pretty much got that experimentally covered. I'll have to think about that.

I'm trying something similar: if I want to go to the loo during the night, I don't, I think it highers my awareness...

Oh that reminds me of "thirst ILD"; I got that to work once or twice. If you wake up really thirsty at night, don't get a drink, and when you dream about drinking you can get lucid.
