I've used this method to relax myself into falling asleep. I have other issues with finally getting asleep, but this method can make one really comfortable while in bed, with being uncomfortable my prime enemy to sleeping.

Start at your feet. Believe it or not, you have nerves which go through all the way down to your feet. () Imagine that you have a sort of muscle in your foot that you can flex from within. Another way is to imagine a single throb sensation in your feet. At the moment which you make your feet "react", exhale from a deep breath. If done correctly, then your feet should feel like they are sinking into your bed, when they really aren't.

Proceed with the imaginary reactions from your feet, to knees, thighs, hips, chest, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, fingers, and finally, your head. If this simple technique works for your body, then in the end you should feel like you have sank a few inches into your bed, and you'll be very relaxed.

Someone try this and tell me if it works for anyone else other than me!

Wait, do you want us to really move our feet, or just imagine that we're moving them? Or imagine that we're moving them, and then flex their muscles?

I fail at directions. *sobs*

No! Movement will hurt your chances of falling asleep. What I'm trying to say is, "sense" that you can feel your feet. Like become aware of their exact location on your body. Then, imagine that you send a throbbing sensation to your feet. If you do it right, then you will feel something happen to your feet, and then you will relax!

It's very difficult for me to explain, maybe I'm the failure at directions!

Its been around for awhile but it's always nice to get a refresh, yeah, it feels like your sheets are made of led, and if maintained, will lead to SP. (just imagine your feets throbbing, and as the throb recedes, imagine weights falling around your ankles.)

Excellent technique. I tried it several times last night, when going to bed, and each time upon waking up to record my dreams, and each time I got really super relaxed using the technique. It's amazing how powerful the imagination is. By doing these exercises using the imagination a person is controlling their mind, which quiets the mind, and thus causes the body to relax.

After going up and down my body 3 or 4 times I noticed a good deal of energy flowing through my body, so then just concentrated on moving the energy back and forth through my body.

This technique is very similar to one presented in a book called Astral Dynamics in which a person concentrates on different parts of the their body to get their energy flowing, and then starts concentrating on their major chakras to get the energy flowing there in an effort to raise the energy level enough to have on OBE.

Great technique. Thanks for testing it yourself before sharing it, and thanks for sharing it.

Aye, yet another variation of the genreal progressive relaxation technique.
I myself simply use imagination to imagine energy rising and falling around each body part, making the part relax and sink into the bed when the energy around it lowers.

Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

I've seen this "move your consciousness from your feet to your head" tech several times before, and whenever I try I give up to go to sleep after a while...
I will try this tonight, and report my results tomorrow morning. Just to make sure I do, this is being homepaged for now...

Longest time in a lucid dreamstate: ~6 seconds

Still, the most epic six seconds I have ever experienced...

I wasn't aware that there were others like it, but at least it works! And I suppose another way to describe could be moving your conciousness from head to toe, or as if you were moving chakra around in your body. Regardless, I'm happy to hear such positive feedback!

It resembles the 61 point tech a lot. Just seems a bit easier.

I'll try it tonight

Good luck with it! Though I can't attest it to better dream recall or increased lucidity chances, it is a nice and easy way to help yourself fall asleep!

If I read correctly, it should be awesome for WILD. I'll just modifie it a bit and it should work. Let's see.

Oh! I get it now! Yes, just by comparing the two (61 point and this one), this one seems much easier. I'll try this during the morning, when I try to WILD.
