Good question. I don't know the answer, but can only promise you that eventually your subconsciousness WILL catch up. They say it's bad to get too obsessed with LDs, because then your mind will block them out. I don't believe that for a second. The more I think about LDs while being awake, the more I think about LDs while dreaming and the more I think about LDs while dreaming, the more LDs I have.
I used to play WoW a lot and I dreamt about WoW every single night. Now I work almost all the time and I dream about work every single night.
So I don't believe you can become too obsessed and I promise you that if you keep spending a lot of time thinking about LDs while being awake, you WILL start getting them.
I've been gone for a while, but just came back to these forums today, because even though I have several LDs each night, last night I had the best LD ever. I was outside when I became lucid and I decided to fly, since it's been a while and I just took off, knowing I could do it. (I sometimes have problems flying, having only flown in perhaps 5 LDs before, for me the law of gravity is just not something you break, even when you're dreaming.) :) It took my breath away and I got super excited, but I somehow managed to not wake up. The view was absolutely stunning and it blew me away. I landed after a while and talked to a friend I haven't seen in 15 years. I woke up after we had talked for a little bit, but wow. This was actually my last lucid dream last night, I had used DEILD to go back to the dream each time I woke up (very powerful technique, for me it only requires a little bit of effort when waking up during the night to concentrate on avoid moving and keeping my eyes shut, while going back to dreaming, this time lucid), but I was lying in a bad position, so after this dream I decided to move instead of going for another LD.
But I still have that moment burned into my mind when I took off, felt it in my stomach and I could see so far ahead and see the ground below me.
When I become lucid, I usually just play with my surrounding, often indoors, but all my most special LDs have happened outside, so remind me to immediately go outside when I become lucid tonight. :)
Oh, one other thing, try to get more sleep before attempting to become lucid, because for me, even though I've had hundreds of LDs, I simply can't have them right after I fall asleep, as if my mind needs to just sleep for a while before it will give me control. Last night I think I got about 8 hours of sleep before my first lucid dream and it's usually somewhere around there. So if you can, try to sleep longer. After many hours of sleep, I drift in and out of sleep and then lucid dreams are easy to have.
